THE UNIVERSITY of New Hampshire football season opener at Army just got a little more interesting.

The folks at ESPN and Army announced on Monday that the Sept. 6 game will be broadcast on ESPN Classic.

"I just found out today," said senior captain and wide receiver Mike Boyle of Plymouth yesterday. "It's a great opportunity for us. It's always fun when you get to play on TV, especially ESPN. More people get to see it." Games in Michie Stadium are a treat themselves, Boyle said.

"I've actually been to a couple of games there," he said. "It's a really good atmosphere. They get a lot of people no matter who they're playing.

There's a lot of tradition, a lot of school spirit. They have a parachutist bring the game ball in. It's exciting." Boyle hit the games while his brother Jon, a 2004 graduate, was attending West Point where he was the captain of the hockey team his senior year. His brother, Boyle said, will be at the September game before he is due to return to Iraq for a second tour of duty.

Theres also some good info in the notebook for those who never attended a game at Army.

UNH will have a pregame reception alongside the route for a military parade that starts at 10 a.m.

"They say the traffic five to six hours prior to the game is pretty tough, so you have to get started early," Sheehan said. "It's a military base and security is tight. Everyone has to know to bring an ID. They open your trunk, check IDs."

It is a nice place to go to watch a game. The whole day is steeped in tradition.
