Big series at the Trop starts tonight. Hope lots of Rays fans can turn out and support the team. The front of the Tampa Tribune has a pic of James Shields swinging on CoCo Crisp (who incidentally was almost a Southern Jaguar).

Mon: Masterson vs Shields
Masterson has been great since he was called up and enters the game with a 4-1 record. Shields is 1-4 with a 5.66 era career vs Boston.

Tue: Wakefield vs Garza
Garza is 2-1 career vs Boston but Tim Wakefield has been near perfect in Tampa Bay in his career going 19-3 with a 3.16 era, and he is also currently on a very hot stretch.

Wed: Matsuzaka vs Kazmir
This is Tampa's best shot at a win in the series. Kazmir is 6-6 vs the Sox but has a career 2.82 era vs them. Matsuzaka is just 1-3 vs Tampa in his career, that all came last year though as he has been much improved this year.

You forgot to mention Boston's is 0-3 record in St. Pete.

As for Wakefield...

Dome = no wind = less effective knuckleball.

The Sox best chance to win is tonight.

He's 24-12 in domes in his career including 9-1 at Tampa

"Pitching inside is always a big plus for me. Just the atmosphere that the dome creates, I think the ball moves a little more inside vs. outside when you have a lot of weather conditions that can probably hinder something. I'm just thankful it was cold and the roof was closed."

"You get much more action on a knuckleball in a dome," said Blue Jays DH Frank Thomas. "He threw a couple there and I was like, 'Wow.' I was amazed. With the movement on that ball, there were times Mirabelli couldn't even catch it."

Well, I must say that I find that surprising. I always thought a knuckleball needed air currents to create movement.

Though I humbly stand corrected, I still say the Rays take 2 of 3. xpeacex

Lots of stuff in the Tribune, saw this also, it was kind of funny.

10 TIPS FOR NEW RAYS FANS

As Tampa Bay's bandwagon starts to get a little crowded, here are 10 tips for new baseball fans heading to Tropicana Field:

REMEMBER THE NAME: Many locals still call the arena in downtown Tampa the Ice Palace, so you cannot be blamed for forgetting the baseball team's nickname. They are no longer Devil Rays, but Rays.

PURCHASE RAYS GEAR: There will be a lot of Red Sox fans sporting their team colors during this series, so local fans need to purchase at least a T-shirt or hat. New Rays logo only, please. And apparel comes in pink and white for women, so no excuses.

BRING THREE FRIENDS: If four people are in one car, including the driver, parking is free.

LEARN THE FIGHT SONG: Yes, the Rays have a fight song. It's set to rock music, and all you have to memorize is "Feel [pause] the Heat [pause] Rays."

NO FISHING IN RAYS TANK: Tampa Bay has a 35-foot, 10,000-gallon tank by the right-center field fence with actual rays swimming around. Fishing is not allowed, but you can feed rays food to them.

THE RIVALRY: Boston has taken the place of the "Evil Empire," the New York Yankees, as Tampa Bay's biggest rival.

IT'S EVAN, NOT EVA: The guy playing third base for Tampa Bay is Evan Longoria, not to be confused with actress Eva Longoria.

ENEMY NO. 1: Red Sox OF Coco Crisp is Rays enemy No..1 for confrontations with several Rays players and eventually charging the mound after Tampa Bay pitcher James Shields hit him during a series earlier this month.

WHERE'S RAYMOND?: The Rays have a furry blue mascot who wanders around Tropicana Field entertaining fans. You may not know what it is, but do not worry - neither does anyone else.

WHEN THE RAYS WIN, YOU WIN: If Tampa Bay Rays strike out 10 opponents in a game, you win a free pizza from Kane's and Papa John's Pizza. If the Rays win, you get a free donut at Dunkin' Donuts.

The Rays are a team of mostly young guys with no primadonna superstars. They play the game like it is supposed to be played - they hustle, they play hard, and they do the little, unselfish things that other teams have abandoned like hitting to the right side with a runner on second. You may have ill feelings toward the Rays (because your Sox are currently in second ;) ), but you have to admire how they go about winning games. It is a true team effort and a refreshing break from what baseball, and all other professional sports have become - a multi-million dollar clash of egos. xnodx

There's actually much more to it than that - quite the history between the two teams. For example, the infamous Pedro/Gerald Williams incident.

That's what he was trying to say. When the Yanks and Sox brawl it's just "dismissed" as part of the rivalry. But when the Rays and Sox do, it's because the Ray's are "punks" who are trying to beat up on the big kid on the playground.

To be honest, I'll be pleasantly surprised if the Rays hold on to win the division, but very disappointed if they do not at least get the wild card. xpeacex

Shields should take lessons from Nolan Ryan so next time he might actually land the swing on Coco.... lol

Prediction time: Sox sweep the series.

It may appear that I was WAYYY off, but the Sox easily could have swept this series, give Tampa credit, they have some very good pitching.

Give me credit too, back in early April I said Tampa would compete this year and people laughed at me.

Just a side note -

The Rays next have a four game series at home vs. the lowly Royals while the BoSox, who have been a poor road team, travel to the Big Apple for a four game set. It is not inconceivable that Boston will find itself in a bigger hole come the beginning of next week. xthumbsupx

The Royals series is a big one, hopefully the Rays won't get caught riding high after the Sox Sweep.
