Words like these don’t ever sound good, no matter who is saying them.

“We’re at the crossroads. We’re going to be real, real good or we’re going to take a dive.”

Those words came from FAMU athletic director Bill Hayes during an hour-long appearance on a radio talk show a week ago.

Hayes spent the time telling FAMU supporters it’s time to show their loyalty.

He was asking for commitments in the form of financial support, while explaining where the athletic program stands now.

Where will it be in the future?

A way to fundraise - or a sign of continued turmoil at FAMU? You decide...

I suspect he wants to beat the bushes for funding which is right. They apparently have a large deficit to clear and the fans and the alumni should help as much as possible. If he fills their stadium every Saturday they should be ok .

The AD is in a bad situation. He knew what he was getting in before he landed there and he seems to have hit the ground running with ways to bring some $$$ in. The question is will the community and those affiliated with the school, buy into it...

With Joe Taylor at the helm of the football program, he's got excellent help. Joe is capable of inspiring the FAMU community, and they will know from his track record at Hampton that things will be done right. That being said, they are in a deep hole.

I guess that either Joe didn't realize what a deep hole FAMU was in when he turned down the Western Carolina job for FAMU, or he thought the program at Western would be to hard to fix.

Bottom line here is that FAMU is strapped for funding just like every other HBCU that relies on public money. When resources are allocated,bigger schools with a more appealing draw when out easily when are things are considered. Not fair but that is the reality of the situation.
