Someone over at PantherNation pondered how UNI's winning percentage over the past decade or so stacked up against the rest of the FCS.

So with the help of some data from www.cfbdatawarehouse.com (and some spreadsheet formatting), I compiled this list.

I'm not sure exactly how the "win % points" is derived, but it does correspond somehow with the overall winning percentage of the teams in the past 8 seasons.

And I included the "schedule points" data as a reference to each teams "Strength of Schedule", with a higher number indicating a tougher schedule in the past 8 seasons (as computed by cfbdw)

Where's McNeese? I'm not sure what these numbers represent, but McNeese is 66-29 during this stretch, so I'm sure they belong on the list, probably pretty close to the top.

Were these selected programs or just the top 54?

The site provided data for the top 125 winning percentages in all of division I, and I removed the FBS teams, which left the top 54 FCS teams.

Not sure how it works with transitioning teams. They still had Western Kentucky listed as I-AA. As well as NDSU and SDSU listed as D2.

For some reason, the site lists McNeese as "Not Yet Ranked in Decade Rankings", though I'm not sure why not.

McNeese ranks #15 in win percentage since 2000, between Coastal Carolina and Colgate. I'll edit the post.

hmm, I wonder how many other schools were left out.

This list, while possibly fun to study, does nothing to validate success. As a Philadelphia Eagles fan, I can relate to the plight of UNI. The Eagles had one of the best winning percentages (if not the best) in the NFL from 2000-2005 and absolutely no silver trophies with the football on top. If you extend this over the past 45 years, same story: good overall record, no bling. Hardware is all that really matters. Don't kid yourself.

Dayton just knows how to win football games, year after year after year! Hats off to Mike Kelly. In all of this winning, Dayton has sent a grand total of ZERO players to the NFL. This makes what future Hall of Fame coach Mike Kelly accomplished even more impressive. There has never been a better coach for getting the absolute most out of his TEAM than Mike Kelly!

So by your standards, only one team in FCS football has a successful season each year?

and Delaware has only had one successful season in it's history?

Coach Murphy has had Harvard cranking on all cylinders since 2001. Three Ivy titles in the past 7 years and a couple of near-misses. Not bad!xthumbsupx

Nope, positively false.

I don't care if UNI ever wins the national pennant. As long as they compete well, represent the university and its alums in a positive fashion and win the conference as often as they should (all of which they do) they are highly successful.

Your post is very elitist.

Not sure what this page (http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/rankings/decade_team_rankings.php?period=2000-2007) is telling us.

Grambling State gets 45 "National Championship points", Hampton gets 30 and Delaware gets 15????

Why are the three Southern Conference schedule points so high in relation to the rest of FCS: Appalachian State 62.92, Georgia Southern 51.53, Furman 59.01, Delaware 19.01, UMass 31.21, Northern Iowa 43.63?

They get the HBCU national champ points.

Also note that the FBS NCs count as 50 points and anything else counts as 15.

Yeah playing the cupcake UNI in 2001 and whacking them 38-0 really brought our SOS down.xlolx
