Vote for the best Fight Song

All right, so, after getting 107 FCS fight songs together, I may not be able to put them all on a website. But I can at least put the top ones up here and you all can listen to them and vote which one is best.

Basically, I went through all I have and got what I thought were the best ones together. Some are very traditional. Some are the best HBCU has to offer. Some are just really cool originals. Plus, I have to put Elon Football's Fight Song up too because I am a homer.

If someone disagrees, please choose other and notify what your favorite is.

Can you post a link to go to lthe place you got them from? Is it alright with these schools that are listed if you direct us to the site you were putting these up on before you got shot down by some schools?

I was posting the best ones of FCS as I thought they were. :D But it backfired darn it.

I'd love to set up a site but too many schools threatened prosecution. These were some of the ones that did not.

IMHO, Northwestern State and Northern Iowa have the best in FCS with App and Iona a not too distant 3rd and 4th. The Bag Pipe and Drum band at Iona is flat out too cool. And Grambling's song is so classic.

The guy does a little work to put some school tunes up and you have to act like a douche. If you think that American Idol is music then it may very well be you that has the music recognition problem.

Those are some good fight songs. I like most of them a lot. Just so I don't look like too much of a homer, let me explain why ASU's is my favorite.

I prefer the tempo and tune of Hi Hi Yikas, though. It's bright. It's celebratory without reservation. It doesn't sound too complicated. It doesn't sound like a military song. It makes you want to run or jump or dance, not march in step.

I also like the fact that it's based on a German folksong about mountaineering.

I know this is a homer opinion, but I've always thought UNH had a pretty good fight song. Our band is small, but their quality is pretty good. As a fight song, I like ours better than many of those posted. Never going to have the volume and performance of the larger bands, but you're rating the song, correct?

What is that supposed to mean.

I mean, we have a wide range of unusual fight songs in FCS. I tried to be impartial and get a good range of the best traditional marches, new marches and HBCU style music. After all, I am called an App hater, but they do have one of the better ones so I had to list them (which I hope truly shows I am not an App hater).


Those are some good fight songs. I like most of them a lot. Just so I don't look like too much of a homer, let me explain why ASU's is my favorite.

I prefer the tempo and tune of Hi Hi Yikas, though. It's bright. It's celebratory without reservation. It doesn't sound too complicated. It doesn't sound like a military song. It makes you want to run or jump or dance, not march in step.


Which is exactly why I went with some of my choices. The ones that are bright and really upbeat are really the ones that sound better overall as opposed to some of the 80-100 year old tunes that are slower marches. The same way with the HBCU music. These styles beg for fan participation with the song which is great.

Last time I looked, Grambling, Miss Valley State, Northwestern State and Northern Iowa were not east coast. And considering the number of schools running down a line from the Dakota to Texas and then east, compared to the west, I think it is obvious why.

I am not going to put songs I didn't like on the list just to be PC and "include" some west coast teams.

Well mainly because 50 or more schools don't have electronic copies of their school song on the internet. So it would be next to impossible for me to post a link to a song for about half the schools. And then you end up with schools like Lehigh, Lafayette, Colgate, The Citadel and the Ivy League schools that have anywhere from 3-7 school songs. So, you'd end up with a poll for each school almost.

I gave my input, these were my choices. Cripes people, you can either choose to vote, or not vote and suggest your choice. But in the midst of all this bellyaching, no one has state an alternative...

Hate to admit it, but HiHi Yikas is the best out of all of those.

And I honestly like a lot of stuff that the HBCU bands play, but that MVSU fight song just sounds like a bunch of howling fiberglass tubas with no actual melody.

I tend to go with what I find on the University Website and/or Athletic Website as to what they call their "Official" fight song. The "Football" Fight song is an additional thing that the MB does. If they are both listed, then I try to get both sets of lyrics and incorperate that into the my Lyrics and Fight Songs Database...

Oh and if you have copies of both, I will gladly add them to my database.

(Currently, I have Elon's Alma Mater and regular Fight Song (Our Director).)

I'm with brownbear. Davy is the Cornell fight song. The Ivy League's website actually gives Davy as their official one, and they play it constantly at any and all sporting events
