Imagine being a fan knowing that your team has to win 12-14 conference games to have a decent record. It didn't always used to be that bad.

But you're in the same position as all the other low-majors, you have to win the conference tourney to get to the dance. But I can see your frustration. What caused the change?

Southern is visiting New Orleans this year...and Texas Southern heads to SHSU...so there are some mid-major games, though not many.

SWAC schools got to bring in the $$$ to keep the budgets balanced. Having success out of conference is secondary...

Tell this to the fans, this is one of the reasons why basketball attendance is horrible. There's always at least one mid-major on the schedule.

Conn, and Marquette, ouch.

Yeah, but Toccoa Falls and Tennessee Wesleyan will more than soothe that pain. xthumbsupx xthumbsupx xthumbsupx

Of course, former coach Steve Shurina has the honors of coaching the worst game in WCU basketball history, a 64-63 loss to freaking Rheinhardt College of Georgia, a NAIA school, back in January 2003.

Still shaking my head over that one.xnonono2x xnonono2x xnonono2x

Tentative 2008-2009 Davidson Basketball schedule as well as confirmed dates of conference games

11/17/08-11/18/08 Preseason NIT (at Oklahoma) (Oklahoma, James Madison, Mississippi Valley State) (2 games, correct?)
11/26/08 and 11/28/08 Preseason NIT (location depends on first two rounds) (are we guaranteed two games?)
12/6/08 vs NC State (Time Warner Cable Arena)
12/9/08 vs WVU (Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden)
12/20/08 vs. Purdue (Wooden Classic)
12/29/08 at CofC
1/7/09 at Duke
1/12/09 at ASU
2/2/09 WCU
2/7/09 vs. CofC

Other games we know of: Bracket Buster, Chattanooga (2), The Citadel (2), Elon (2), Furman (2), Georgia Southern (2), Samford (2), UNCC, UNCG (2), Winthrop, and Wofford (2).

That gets us to 29 (assuming the Preseason NIT counts as 2 games, which is my understanding of the rule

Yup, it's at Payne Whitney. Last season the women's basketball team hosted Stanford too. Think this game will sellout? :p

Outside of hosting Stanford, I'm pretty disappointed with the rest of the non-conference schedule.

My best bud is a Sacred Heart alum and was actually disappointed when the conference went to Div 1. SHU was a Div 2 power, winning a National Championship in the early '90's. Do they still play in the "SHU BOX" or have they upgraded their facilities in the last 10-15 years. I haven't even driven by SHU (or Quinnipiac or Southern) in many years.

I really like ASU's schedule this year. Hope we can continue knocking off some of the better OOC teams. Beat Arkansas last year and Virginia, Vandy and VCU the year before. xnodx

Some good OOC games:

@ UNC Wilmington
CHARLOTTE
@ Niagara
CAMPBELL
EAST TENNESSEE STATE
@ Kentucky
@ Texas
@ Bracket Buster

SHU now plays at the William Pitt Center, a 2,100 seat multi purpose facility that was built in '97. There isn't much to the place...just bleachers. Their Division 2 National Championship banner still hangs from the rafters.

Delaware State's is pretty rough. That's just the nature of a school like DelSt who has a lot of travel within the MEAC from them all the way down to Bethune-Cookman in Florida. They have got to make the $$$ to cover budget woes.

Wonder what kind of pay they are getting for some of trips. I know the SWAC schools in this neck of the woods have raised their requests for guarantees and have priced themselves out of some school's ranges...
