Happens with soccer games quite a bit, usually as a punishment for fans rioting. Probably the first time for a baseball game, though.

I remember a minor league team did that as a promotional thing (minor leagues do some crazy promotional things, the majors not so much since Disco Demolition Derby night and 5-cent beer night)

People still showed up and tried to catch peeks through fences and whatnot. It actually helped with attendance for the next few games IIRC.
