UT-Pan American has been an independent for a bit too long...

Apparently, they are going to have some news relating conference affiliation soon. A critic of the operations at UTPA says it will probably be some pairing with the independent schools, which has grown over the years -- independent tournaments and home-and-home agreements in numerous sports. Wonder what's on tap here...will UTPA end up in a conference?

Good read if you click on the below link to see even more related to the program in Edinburg...they say that if they have football, the Southland or Lone Star Conference (Div II) would want them. Would the SLC really want them?

Edwards' trip to Dallas came on the heels of his promise at the UTPA Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony May 31 that the school would have significant news to report regarding affiliation "in the next couple weeks." He's now targeting June 22 or 23 for that announcement.

Edwards won't say whether he's working with an existing conference or one he hopes will form. But Schnall says don't expect anything earth-shattering, and there have been no recent developments to suggest otherwise.

"It's probably the independent thing, which would be useless," Schnall said. "You're dealing with New York Tech and New Jersey Tech and perhaps Northern Colorado and that school in Chicago. Name one of those schools where we have anything in common or that's geographically in close proximity.
