And I thought you were going to tear into me.

He was the one who (when playing for Toronto) wouldn't stand for the National Anthem... xcoffeex

He wouldn't stand for "God Bless America" when it was played at Yankee Stadium, and he got some real negative fan reaction. Regardless of your stance on the war, "God Bless America" has been played or sung live (Roman Tynan) at every game since 9/11. It is viewed not as a tribute to those serving in the military, but to the New Yokers who lost their lives on 9/11.

So many New Yorkers really took offense with DelGado, to the point that when the Mets acquired him, many sports pundits here in New York questioned whether it was the right thing to do.

Incidentally, congratulations to Big Papi on his oath of citizenship.

Sure is nice of him to be disrespectful and wear his sunglasses,

I'm curious: why is it considered "disrespectful" to wear sunglasses?

So are you the one during the National Anthem won't take off your hat and sunglasses and hold your hand over your heart? When you are taking the oath in court do you wear your sunglasses? When something important regarding the nation or its laws do you wear your hat and sunglasses?

I take my hat off of course, but I never thought to take my sunglasses off. The thought literally never crossed my mind. That's why I asked you why you think it is appropriate, because I can't think of a reason why that would be the case.xconfusedx

Ok. You are taking an oath of citizenship to the USA? Or maybe you are inside?

So... you don't actually have a reason you can articulate?

Say you are getting your picture taken for an important document, say your passport, do you keep your glasses on? (I mean I know you won't because they wouldn't accept the photograph otherwise, but this might put it in perspective ;))

When taking the oath you are changing your identity in one of the most profound ways (at least, on paper), and wearing sunglasses is one thing that actually disguises your identity. Seems quite contradictory to me.

Do regular glasses or earrings also count? I'm trying to understand this.
