The old scoreboard has been taken down and the new board will be going up later this week or early next week! I'll have to go up and take some pictures soon to post. xthumbsupx

It's about time, some high schools had better scoreboards than we did :o , plus it just looked out of place in the new stadium.

Will the new board have a Video board?

andy7171
June 11th, 2008, 01:31 PM
Not sure. There was talk of getting a video board for the stadium and for the basketball arena at the same time, but the renovation of the arena has been put on hold with talk of building a separate basketball only building next door to the existing TowsonCenter. I'll get up there early next week and snaps some shots of it...

Ages ago? The Minnegan Stadium I played on had real grass and only one side of stands!

I think the turf in 99 was brand new. It was also terrible some guys had rug burn so bad they went to the hospital afterward. You do have a great facility now however

When did they change that turf out? I played on it our last game in 2003. It was horrible - so was my day under center.......

Seriously, Unitas (nee Minnegan) is a nice field for CAA football and I trust the renovations will improve it even more so.

Last season was the first with the FieldTurf.

I understand why the switch was made, but the natural turf in Old Minnegan was SSSSSOOOOOO nice. xbawlingx

Confirmed, the new scoreboard will include a video board. And if I understood correctly, the old scoreboard is going in the other endzone as a secondary board.

It's the year of scoreboard modernization in the CAA! You'll have to come to the Tigers/Hens game at the Tub this year and let us know how the two newest scoreboards in the conference compare.xthumbsupx

They had to think long and hard about finding an opponent for that scoreboard mock-up to not offend anyone - although putting Hens or Dukes would have been funny. Are there any "Bears" in FCS anyway?

Also Brown Bears and UCA Bears to round it out. (Montana are bears but not Bears and there are the Bearkats of Sam Houston)

Sweet Tigers ! Nice looking video/scoreboard. It is easily warranted with the attention you get for Lax in the spring. UD is going the same route. We are getting the turf, a similar board and the Lax team will play in the Tub next spring.

LAX and any other sport is a waste of time in the Tub and you know it. If we didn't have Rullo, you'd have a point, but LAX is fine where it is.

Currently mens lax is fine where it is but in the next 3-5 years the Tub is where Men's Lax. belongs. Look for 5-8k fans in the refurbished Tub in the spring next decade.

Chevy Chase Field at Byrd Stadium

'89 you might not want to compare '08 Maryland home figures to UD home numbers in '12. Lax is not football. We all agree, but in terms of UD and the direction the LAX program is heading. Those teams are no better than us in the long run and the sport is growing like crazy. Plus at UD, as you know, there is no other game in town. Look to the future my friend.

Are you serious?? Those teams are national contenders EVERY year. We made the final four once. They are 10-20 years ahead of UD. How many students do we get to go to football games on average? 3,000? 2,000?... you really think Joe Newark is going to come to a lacrosse game to see the Hens battle Hofstra? PLEASE take my wager. xpeacex

'89 quit with the inferiority complex in LAX and stop thinking ACC teams are better by default. As you remember we beat UVA's a$$ last year at their place. WE are actually in the LAX hotbed as much as UVA and if you havent noticed, Harker is the one who wants to bring Mens LAX to the Tub. My point is this is a part of what is going to renovate our athletic facilities. Get use to it and maybe go see a game. Yes we will get big crowds in the next few years. I take your bet easily.

93henfan
June 20th, 2008, 10:37 PM
Sorry Henny, but I'll have to side with '89 on this one. Delaware was a nationally prominent, high winning percentage team in baseball under Bob Hannah during my four years at UD, and I never once went to see a game. I'd bet they drew <1,000 to every game in that era.

Like George Carlin said. "Football is a sport. Lacrosse is a f****t college activity. If you find yourself standing in a field with a stick with a net on the end of it, you're engaged in a f****t college activity!"

And that's pretty much the way it will always be.

Man I hope you guys dont apply for the AD job when EJ throws in the towel.

You also probably remember the skit Carlin did about Football and Baseball, yet I dont see MLB or Minor attendance in the dumps.

Haven't we had three current CAA teams in the final four in the last three years? (Hofstra, UMASS and UD) - not sure on Hofstra but they also had a great run in '06

Oh well, I'd like to get back to Football. That is something I'm sure we all agree on!

Just for perspective, the top five lacrosse home attendance averages for 2007 (I don't have 2008 yet):

1. Syracuse 4,735
2. Navy 4,652
3. Johns Hopkins 3,713
4. Cornell 3,338

Good times, good times...

5000-8000 attendance figures at UD is a wee bit hopeful. Maybe if you host a playoff game. xnodx Towson only sees those numbers if Hopkins drives up Charles St!

Johnny U was the chairman of the stadium fund raising committee. His daughters went and were going there at the time of the stadium renovations. He was leading the search for a corporate naming. He died shortly before the opening. So TU asked his wife if they could name it after him.
