View Full Version : Hardest Places to Win?

We always hear of the home advantage and have seen it play out, but what schools/stadiums are the hardest to win at? And what makes it so difficult?

CCSU aside, Andy Kerr is not an easy place to win at in the past several years. We've won 19 of our last 20 at home.

What makes it difficult? Well, a good team helps! That, and the trip up to CNY in the fall can demoralize some.

As for the PL, I'd say Lehigh is as tough a place to play as Colgate. #1 reason is a good team. #2 is they actually have some nice crowds to cheer on the Mountain Hawks. Great venue all around.

I would put Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone right up there. Not only are the crowds great, but the altitude and weather effect alot of teams.

GSU and Montana are the hardest places to win historically.

What makes a stadium a hard place to win at? That's an easy one... the quality of the home team inhabiting it. ;)

You win the prize. I don't know record wise which teams are the most dominating but the two mentioned above would be at or near the top. But more importantly, if you are good, you will generally win at home.

I looked over our slate of opponents and find home field advantage lacking elsewhere. Over the long haul, we have played many "powers" during the season and in the play-offs at their place . Only one has a true "home field" advantage--

Georgia Southern ?? --- Not even close

Montana ??-- :p You must be kidding !!

Villanova ??-- The Guins OWN them.

Nope the list is long , but only one place is pure he11--

Yep-- Delaware. Tough nut to crack. But we are willing to try again.

I may be biased, but I would have to say the Stateboro, GA has the best home field advantage. UTC is 0-10 @ Paulson Stadium ouch. They have a nearly 90% winning percentage there.

If the crowd has packed the place, Holt Arena at Idaho State is tough to win.
And that's a big IF.

The Snow has to be the hardest. We have played every home game there and haven't won, yet.

Over the past 5 years (picked arbitrarily)

Delaware is 30-7 (.811) at home
Georgia Southern is 33-5 (.868) at home
Montana is 40-4 (.909) at home.

Montana---tough anytime, but really tough when school is in session. Students and fans both really back the home team. Intimidation, too, driving through Missoula on game day seeing maroon and silver "Go Griz" signs everywhere (even on churches).

Montana State---tougher to play as the season goes on. Wind and snow does not deter Bobcat fans from cheering and watching, but it does keep some of the visiting fans from arriving.

Delaware, McNeese, Georgia Southern---always tough to beat a powerhouse at home because of the fans.

GSU home playoff record: 29-3-0
GSU holds the two longest home winning streaks in 1-AA history, at 38 and 39 games, respectively.

You're right... not even close.

Until the North Dakota St. game this year, Northwestern St. hadn't lost a home OOC game since 1994. Before that the streak went for some time too. We rarely lose at home.

Southern got beat at home by both S Dakota St and McNeese last year, who collectively went 2-9 against against other teams on the road

kats89
October 11th, 2005, 05:49 PM
In not particular order, but IMO these places seem to be pretty tough since I have been to these stadiums...

"The Hole"--McNeese State There is a reason why it is nicknamed that.

Wa-Griz--Univ of Montana Can be one of the loudest stadiums around for an outdoor stadium. When that place is packed, it is unbelievable. I think during our semi-final game last year the decibal reading was something like 105db on the field as reported by ESPN that day.

Before SFA came to town last fall coach Biggs was 55-12-1(.815) at toomey field. Unfortunately since that game the Toom has been the hardest place for the ags to win at.

It would be scary, you guys haven't lost a home playoff game in a long time.....Then again you haven't played one ;)

I kid I kid.

I realize I'm a homer here but no stadium in I-AA can be louder or more intmidating than Washington-Grizzly. It's ALWAYS sold out, no matter what. And the gameday atmosphere unmatchable. The only atmosphere I've seen come close is at Autzen.

Since we've been alive as a football team "Our House" just about has to be ranked as the most difficult place to come out of with a win. Unfortunately under the Sewak administration it’s become somewhat more common.

I couldn't agree more. Heck, as a fan, I am demoralized every time I have to make that trek up Route 12 to Hamilton, especially in early November. I swear that it is always cold and windy in Hamilton. :o

I was going to post the numbers out of the gameday program. They have it listed as 202-27-3 (.877) from 1964 to 2004. Of course now it is 205-27-3 and counting.
