I know most of you don't care but as a Temple student and sports nutt i couldn't be happier. This guy was clueless from day 1 and has done nothing but help drive this program into the ground. His success at Northern Alabama translated into nothing here at Temple. I know Temple might not be the easiest place to recruit to but we have enough resources and an expanding campus that a competitive 1-A football program should be possible. Hopefully they hire someone that cares about winning rather than collecting a paycheck and losing 63-13 every week. It might be a tough sell because of our losing tradition, last winning season 1990, but i don't think it will be impossible to get a decent hire.

Temple has gotten more pub this year than they would had they had a winning season...
Jim Rome gives them pub almost every day, if certainly not every Monday to recap their drive to the "perfect season"...

If you can't attract players to your campus, you aint going to win. You also need some students. If I recall, Temple lost about 15 'student-athletes' due to academic deficiencies just before the season began, and a good number were starters or those going to see a lot of time. No horses, no races.

Blaming Bobby Wallace for Temple's problems is absurd. His mistake was taking a job which was a hopeless cause.
To borrow a phrase I once read somwhere:
Temple football is like a horse with three shattered legs. The only humane thing to do right now is to end its misery.

I think it will be impossible to get a decent hire. Seriously, I don't think Wallace could have done any better given the level of support he was afforded. When schools like Rutgers turn their backs on you then you know you have serious issues.
Maybe you can get Rich Neuheisel. With things going so well in Baltimore maybe you could lure him away

I remember on the Big East boards when folks claimed that Temple was turning the corner when they brought Wallace in.

I think they were. It was the announcement in '01 that killed any possibility of turning the corner completely. Hell, it backed them up. They won 4 games in 2000 and again in 2001, and were competitive in a couple of losses. Overall, they played better those years than they had for most of the 90's. Alas, it was too little, too late.

Not that I love Wallace or anything, but this guy is a total scapegoat. I'm actually surprised he stayed this long. Temple should end their D 1-A program, there has been absolutely no institutional support for this program whatsoever. I don't even think this program would thrive in the Patriot League.
Also, regarding the perfect season. They have a ridiculously tough schedule By my estimate, the only team they stood a chance at being comptetive with was Western Michigan. Next week the play Miami. This is the kind of schedule that would give Bill Snyder at K-State a heart attack.

Why don't they let John Chaney take over. It is obvious the administration doesn't care if they win and Chaney always struck me a guy who would make a great football coach.

I don't think he would. His "goons" couldn't hurt a guy very much with all those pads on!

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University Head Football Coach Bobby Wallace today announced that he will not seek renewal of his contract at the conclusion of the 2005 season. Wallace has a 19-66 record in eight seasons directing the Owls and a 101-102-1 overall mark in 18 seasons as a collegiate head coach.
Dam he was 82-36-1 when he started that job. What a career move he made.

Temple might not be a football school or even emphasize it close to that of PSU, Maryland or even Delaware. However, the board of trustees does acknowledge that a successful football program is a great way to bond a university and gain insitutional exposure. The University didn't handle the BiG East expulsion well, but they continued to reaffirm the schools committment to 1-A football. Temple hasn't handled the situation great, but given the finincial concerns of the school, expanding campus and gaining the prestige back to their once revered medical program, the never waivered in their support to continue the program. Wallace decided to stop recruiting and go for JUCO players in 2002 even though he knew and the recruits should have known that Temple would have a program beyound 2004. He should have resigned a couple years ago but didn't. My frosh year in 2001 i went to a couple Temple games and they were enjoyable, while we might not have won much we played hard and made games interesting, even against much better opponents. In 2002 we went toe-toe with #1 Miami for all but 8 minutes of the game and lost 48-24 i believe. I would love to go to the Miami game on Saturday if there was any hope they would atleast make it competitive but i know the reality is they're going to lose 56-10 or maybe worse. So i'll be at the Lehigh game my adapted college team, besides Notre Dame. If i could make one wish to Temple it would be to build an on campus facility. Temple has expanded a lot in North Philly and has the land to build a nice 30,000 seat stadium that could be expanded to 40-45k if needed. Students would come, the entusiasm would be there and football would become part of the culture of the campus. As great as the Linc it doesn't have the uniqueness and characteristics of a college stadium. There is growing support so i don't think it's far fetched that in the next 10 years Temple will have it's own on campus stadium. One of the major hurdles will be crossed when our president leaves which should happen in the next year or two because he's despised my the faulty as well as many of the board members.

Wallace was a lame duck. His contract was due to expire after this year and the adminstration made it clear they weren't going to renew it. The only players he could recruit were JUCO transfers because freshman wouldn't have any idea whom they'd be playing for.

It pretty much explains why they stuck with Wallace. Frankly, the guy deserves a bonus for putting up with this *****. I hope he moves on to other coaching jobs and is happy.
