Young talent ready to shine !

During the past seven seasons, no Southland Conference team has been a more consistent winner than Sam Houston State University.

Since 1999, Coach Bob Marlin’s Bearkats have won more games than any other rival in the 11-team league. The Kats won Southland titles in 2000 and 2003, finished third in 2005, fourth in 2001, and fifth in 2004. They won the SLC post-season tournament in 2003 and reached the semifinals in 2000, 2001, and 2005, producing 10 players who have earned All-SLC honors a total of 16 times. That includes two SLC “Players of the Year.”

Are you kidding me? No really big games?

Kats are in Preseason NIT against Missouri in round one. Playing a Houston team that is going to be an NCAA team, no doubt about it considering the job Penders has done. Just think we lost by one and gave them that game last year. Playing Arizona in Arizona, which is pretty neat. Those are three solid games. And if the Kats somehow upset Mizzou, the NIT could lead to some other big games...

Getting Southern Mississippi at home will be nice, a winnable C-USA opponent...

I just meant no Texas Tech caliber games. That was awsome. :)

But Marlin somehow can't find a way to beat Southeastern :D After a few years at the bottom of the SLC barrel, Southeastern has won the last TWO Southland Conference regular-season championships and will be gunning for a third led by Ricky Woods

SHSU, because of their past success, will be interesting to watch. Who is replacing Joe Thompson, Eddy Fobbs and Wilder Auguste?

John Gardiner, a 6-8 post, averaged 8.7 points and 5.2 rebounds while leading Grayson County Community College to a 16-13 record last year. He led his team in shooting with a .629 field goal percentage. That's your Wilder Auguste.

C. J. Hadley, a 6-4 forward, averaged 16.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.2 steals as he led Three Rivers Community College in Missouri to a 21-11 record and its first regional playoff appearance in a decade. Eh, this kid will be special nonetheless..

Jejuan Plair, a 6-1 guard, averaged 14.1 points and 5.4 assists to lead McLennan Community College to a 23-7 mark last season. Joe Thompson, anyone?
