The internet's a great place for looking stuff like this up:
http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb2004/Internet/attendance/IAA_AVGATTENDANCE.pdf
Last year's numbers; schools with special off-campus games listed at the end; Yale average attendance increases by 7-8,000 in years when it hosts Harvard.

You're right. 46th in I-AA isn't bad for a new program.

JMU's 2005 Attendance Figures
14,673 vs. Lock Haven
13,645 vs. Delaware State
15,087 vs. Maine
14,468 is the current season average attendance per game
107% of stadium capacity (Bridgeforth Stadium seats 13,559)
JMU's average attendance took a hit in the Delaware State game as that followed the loss at Coastal Carolina but the current average attendance should get boosts from hosting conference opponents Richmond, Villanova, and Towson later in the season.

Morgan St. vs. Savannah St. on 9/17 drew 40,502 fans. I think it was at a neutral site, but Morgan St. was the home team. Hence their higher than normal average. When I have time, I'll break apart the neutral site games within the code.

The $64,000 question is this: How many COULD Montana get if they had more seats?!  I'm bettin' 35,000.Maybe, but I don't think so, especially as season average. There weren't a lot of people looking for tickets for FLC and SDSU. Homecoming was big, and probably could have sold 30,000 for that one, and this week with EWU is huge, so maybe 30 - 35k for that one as well. Cal Poly and Portland State might be down a little with hunting season starting, although with a Griz win this weekend the UM-Cal Poly game could be a match up of top 5 teams if James Madison loses at UMASS, and combined with no live TV that game could draw pretty well.

That's funny. Montana is averaging 23,470 in a stadium with a capacity of 23,117, with games against Fort Lewis, Weber State and SDSU (not exactly the greatest drawing cards) and yet you think there's only 1500 more people who'd go if they could get a ticket? I'll see your 25,000, and raise you 30,000 minimum, with 35K for homecoming, MSU, and other big games (EWU and CP and PSU this year). Dellusional or not, UM is leaving money on the table by not adding capacity.

IMO and this is strictly MO, I think 1500 more would be a pretty good guess. We've gotten the large crowds this year because of the games being tape delayed and other promo reasons.
I have a different way of determining how many people are not going to the games that want to go. That being we ALWAYS have from 2 to 4 extra tickets and we're having to work harder to give them away free to people. The only requirement is that the people MUST actually go. We don't give them to "iffy" people! :)

And UD is averaging 22,250 in a stadium with a capacity of 22,000 with games against West Chester and Holy Cross.... So what? To honestly think you could draw 25% more than you're currently drawing is silly. Over time, maybe, but some Hen fans are saying the same thing. Until you start seeing scalpers outside of Wash-Griz or the Tub getting double and triple face value for seats, there are only 500-1500 people not getting in that would have bought tix.

Tn State has had only one home games and three nuetral site games. The NCAA does not count nuetral site games in their figures. Those nuetral site classics averaged around 50K. Look for that number to decrease as we have three more home OVC games however, one is homecoming which should draw around 20k to 25k.

Victor, I agree with 1500 more for the three games already held. But I'll bet those scalpers ARE standing outside the stadium THIS weekend, and for the next 2 weekends after that. I'm also bettin' you won't have nearly as difficult a time getting rid of extra tickets to these next three games. If you do, I'll give you my Dad's phone #...he lives in Stevensville! ;) ;) He'd be HAPPY to take ANY extra tickets off your hands!
My point is: 23,000 for that weak of competition says something. And 30K wouldn't be unreasonable for EWU and/or Cal Poly, with 35K for MSU (if it was here). Hell, it'd draw 35K ANYWHERE.
And no offense to 89Hen, but there's just a FEW more things to do in the NE than in Montana. In Missoula, it's the only show in town---NO competition.

None taken, but there's also just a FEW more people living here than in Missoula. I've said it before, but my county has as many people in it as the state of Montana. I would like nothing more than to agree with you and the Hen fans that think we could somehow magically increase attendance by 25-50% just by adding seats. I think the administrations agree with me. At least they are adding seats in Montana, but even so, they're adding 3-5k over a couple years. If they thought for a second that they could draw 30,000 almost every game, they wouldn't have just decked the corners of your endzones, they would have double deckered one of the entire sides.

Actually Lehigh's 6888, while significantly lower than usual isn't bad considering only 1275 showed up in the monsoon on Saturday, which was only our second home game (there had been 5700 advance/season tix sold for Holy Cross.

One thing to note about WKU is that they always seem to UNDERSTATE their attendance figures! For example, at our first home game against W. Va Tech, the announced attendance was only around 8900. But those that were there would tell you that there were well over 10K at the game! Since students get in by showing their IDs and there are no turnstiles, we have surmised that student attendance does not get counted! :bang: Only the ticket stubs. We also believe this is planned so that when the move to 1-A is made, we'll have turnstiles to get an accurate count for attendance requirement purposes.

Villanova's number is inflated by the "home" game they played against Penn at Penn's Franklin Field. Their average is a few thousand more than their stadium can hold.

North Dakota State's home attendance so far:
13,793 - Arkansas-Monticello
14,368 - Weber State
14,022 - Nicholls State
Average - 14,061
Stadium Capacity - 18,700
Percentage - 75.2% capacity
Ranking in I-AA - 10th
Considering the Bison's remaining home schedule, I would expect a couple near sell-outs. The average should go up considerably. NDSU will end up with an impressive average this season.

But does your entire county live, eat and breath Hen football? In Missoula in the late 70's and 80's it was basketball, with Jud Heathcote, Michael Ray Richardson, Larry Krystowiack, etc. When Don Read showed up, that changed. Now it's football...the problem is that without consistently good competition in the BSC, you get years like THIS year (EWU, PSU, Cal-Poly) at home, and then you get years like next year (Sac State, NAU, ISU--ugh). Maybe they just need to put up 5K temporary seats every OTHER year. ;) ;)

Griz, we in JMU-land feels your pain of an off-scheduling year.
Nonetheless, we have sold out for the season, despite that our home games are D2 Lock Haven, Del. St., Maine, Richmond, Villanova, and Towson.
That means we're on the road for CCU, Hofstra, UMass, Delaware, W&M.
Of course, the conference games were stacked in the opposite direction last year.
I am glad we got a weak home schedule this year though following the national championship. That means next year, the possibility of a fall off from season ticket sales is less likely since the home games will be against bigger rivals. Still, the fickle fans of I-AA need us to put together another good playoff run to build on last year's accomplishments, otherwise, the doubters will reign.
So far, Bridgeforth Stadium has not been a place I would want to play in if I were playing in I-AA, or I-A for that matter.

I actually thought our attendance was going to be down a bit this year, but have been pleasantly surprised, we should finish with a 14k plus average this year, and have the possibility of 15k if we can put together a win streak
