Is it too early in the season to call the Phillies-Marlins series starting tonight an "important" series? I don't think so. I know it's a lonnnnnnnng season (one of the things I don't like about baseball) but I think I'm not alone in wishing the Phils would establish themselves as a leader and not a hanger-on if that makes sense. xconfusedx

I agree 100%. I hope Myers can find whatever he has been missing and make a quality start tonight. I think all three games of the series are televised down here. xthumbsupx I'll be watching tonight (if the kids let me :o ).

This series is really only important for the Phillies. The Marlins will be sitting next to the Nationals in the standings just going through the motions by the All-Star break.

I hope it is the Nationals and not the Mets, who are always subject for a big-time swoon.

The Sox have a big series with TB next week so the Sox can remind the Rays who then men of the AL East are. :p

Phils spot Fish 3 in the first, but roar back behind Howard, Utley and Coste HR's for a 12-3 win. Phils are in first by 0.5 games, Atl and NY also lose.

That all depends on how long NY management sticks with Randolph. AFAIK the longer Randolph stays the better.

It's not the Mets I'm worried about, it's the Braves.

Agreed - the Mets are a trainwreck - too old, no pop in the offense, and their bullpen stinks. Outside of Santana and Maine, they are a big question mark in the starters as well - Pedro can't stay healthy and Perez is like Nuke Larooche before he started wearing garters. I'd be more worried about the Braves, especially with their ability to win so many games at home.

Well it was bound to happen. Hamels had a bad outing and the offense hasn't done too much. 7-2 in the 6th...

Well your right about the age of the team and their struggles on offense but you are way off base about the Mets pitching.

The Mets starters have combined for a 4.35 ERA with 236 K's and a WHIP of 1.40. This is good enough to rank 6th in the NL, better than the Phillies actually whose starters are ranked 11th. And Pedro is healthy again and will return on Tuesday which moves Vargas to the pen or banished Pelfrey to AAA.

The Mets bullpen has a 3.70 ERA ranking them 7th in the NL. Heilman has been terrible but everyone else has been outstanding, especially Wagner:
Wagner 990 ERA+
Schoeneweis 340 ERA+
Feliciano 155 ERA+
Smith 137 ERA+
Sanchez 97 ERA+

Overall the Mets pitching staff is ranked 7th in the NL right behind the Phillies. The Mets problems have nothing to do with their pitching and everything to do with the offense. It's a long season and a bit premature to write off a team as talented as the Mets.

Yes, the Phils weren't going to win 'em all..they hit well tonight, but a couple shots were held up by the wind and the Marlins threw some serious leather that saved a few runs. Hamels has had two rough outings in a row now...Myers gets his mojo back and Hamels loses his...go figure.

Phils had a another great come from behind win today, 7-5 over the Marlins after trailing 5-1. Utley hit his 20th HR, Howard made some great defensive plays (believe it or not), Jenkins with a 2-run pinch hit HR in the 7th to tie the game and Burrell with a 2-run double in the bottom of the 8th. Lidge nails down the save with 2 Ks...Back in front by 1/2 game.xthumbsupx
