Welcome to the beginning of the end for UNI athletics as we know them today. Wrestling and baseball will be gone within 2 years as UNI begins to move towards better Title IX responsibilities and less financial support from the state. xbawlingx xbawlingx xbawlingx

Can someone explain Title IX better to me?

I always thought it was just equal spending, 50/50. But from what I am hearing UNI needs to spend a proportionate amount depending on enrollment. Meaning that since UNI is around 60% female, 60% of athletic funding must go to women. Is this correct?

There's a post somewhere on Bisonville where someone (Hammersmith, I suspect) described Title IX. I can't find it at the moment, but it involved 3 "prongs" by which you could meet the requirements, one of which was spending, but I can't remember the rest.

UNI graduate or not, it sounds like an odd decision. The comments in the Register aren't very positive either. Have to wonder about Walker, seems like her experience, roots, and coming from an ACC school would have been huge.

The first candidate interviewed (Barbara Walker from Wake Forrest) worked as a senior athletic administrator at Oregon and Texas before heading to Wake. Her father was an AD at Central Missouri which meant she had midwest roots. Seems to me she is well connected nationally and could have performed miracles at UNI. I suspect the other "qualified" candidates could have done the same.
