View Full Version : Worst Sports weekend ever

I swear, if anything else went wrong this weekend, I would've jumped off my dorm's roof.
*UVA loses a game they really could've and should've won, dropping 3rd down passes when it counted three times, to fall to 3-2 and 1-2 in the ACC
*My Braves are dominated on Saturday in a 7-3 loss.
*The next day, the Braves blow a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the 8th, give up a home run in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs to tie, then go on to lose the longest playoff game ever.
*My fantasy football team got smacked.
The big thing is that NOTHING went right. And all the losses were so excruciating to watch.

Other side of the coin for me.
Griz won
Packers won
Tiger Woods won
I didn't win the lottery but 3 of 4 isn't bad!

Guess the femine Mountain Hawks don't mind getting wet. Game was played at Ulrich Stadium, a couple hundred yards from Goodman. Of course, they play on an artificial turf field, so maybe there's a lesson in there somewhere
It's already next week :)

One of the best ever for me:
Griz won convincingly
Mark Martin won
Seahawks won
Vikings didn't lose
Red Sox lost series
Braves lost series
If the Yankees had lost last night it would have been the perfect weekend. :)

So what's the story with the UVA goon? I saw that the BC head coach is demanding some sort of review. Is Al Groh actually going to hold this kid accountable?
I really don't feel bad for BC because they won the game and it's probably some of their bad karma catching up with them.

I hope so. Very uncharacteristic poor sportsmanship from both teams all game long.

Speaking of Al Groh. Why does he continue to get a pass? UVA has talent but they continue to underachieve.

I'm starting to wonder the same thing. He should have had a pass for the first four years, but here we are stuck in neutral, maybe in reverse. I was at the Tire Bowl in 2002 when UVA whipped up on WVU. It felt like that was the beginning of the next step for UVA. If anything, they've gone backwards since then. Yes, they were devastated by the NFL draft last year, but so was FSU, Miami, VT.... that's just what happens when you have talented players. UVA is starting to remind me of the MEAC and SWAC... all talent and no team. Losing at BC wasn't bad, but losing at Maryland was. Combine the two and it's going to be a long season. :(

I was shocked to hear that something like 80% of Virginia Tech's team comes from Virginia. UVA is talented but VT definitely has the edge. Damn there is a ton of talent in Virginia but you would think that a recruit would want to be in Charlottesville over Blacksburg.
I thought UVA losing their bowl last season to Fresno State? was pretty damn embarassing. You have to think that UVA is going to start coach shopping pretty damn soon. Oh and I think UNC will be coach shopping soon as well after their worst loss in school history.

Au contraire, Groh was just given an extension with a HUGE raise a couple weeks ago. As for VT winning the recruiting battle in-state, it's pretty darn close considering how much better VT has been over the past 10 years. UVA, and more specifically Groh, has been able to pull in players from out of state, something I think Beamer wishes he could do a little better. Groh may actually be a better recruiter than Beamer, but Beamer is a much better coach.

No, Al Groh will be at UVA for a long time. He just got an extension, which in my opinion was somewhat undeserved. Last year's team should've battled for an ACC title, but struggled instead. This year's team pisses me off with all the unrealized talent on it.

If Kirk Ferentz from Iowa is the best coach in the country, which he is in my opinion, Frank Beamer is definitely a close second. Oh, how I would I would love it if he were at UVA and not at Tech :( .

Here's some news on it (http://www.newsadvance.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=LNA%2FMGArticle%2FLNA_BasicArti cle&c=MGArticle&cid=1128767450057&path=!sports)
Yeah, I was shocked that a UVA player did that. As a columnist in the Cavalier Daily (UVA's paper) said, "Stuff like this happens at Florida State and Miami. It does not happen at UVA." Personally, I can understand those who would like to see him held out of the next game. I would, too, if we weren't playing FLORIDA STATE. With all the injuries we've had to our line, losing Butler would just make things even worse. I don't know what should be done.
