Now that the the Pre-Season Top 25 and "others" are listed, what team, who did not receive any votes, will make the biggest noise this year..i.e. the true 'dark horses' who have a lot of talent, but also a lot of question marks? Who will be we puzzling over in November and say, "Where did they come from?"...

Prairie View A&M.

We'll know a lot more about then when they face Sam Houston State early in the season and this may be the year they finally get over the Grambling hump.

Henry Frazier III has done a great job in building that program up and they have taken over the reigns and run with them in their big rivalry game against Texas Southern, who will this year, counter with Bobby Reid, formerly of Oklahoma State.

I'm pulling for PV!

No question there was never a bigger doormat for years than Prairie View. Building up that program, where many schools would have terminated, says a lot.

I think it will be Stony Brook, as much as it pains me to say that.

Another year with scholarships and full program funding and a great head coach will do them wonders. I look for them to make some noise and compete for the Big South championship and an at-large.

I'm watching them closely, last years game with them was a dog fight and I expect another good one, but I still feel the west will come down to Grambling and Southern.

I hate being a homer but getting over the JSU hump and beating Grambling and PV will help the Jags make noise. This could be their best team since '03.

Weber St looked very dangerous down the stretch last year, inconsistent, but dangerous. Watching them play would give you a different impression than just looking at the scores of their last five games. The Griz game is a no-counter- both teams sucked. If they can improve on defense and continue to mature as an offense, they could be a serious to challenge UM/EWU/NAU for the conf title.

Because I'm entitled to my opinion, that's why. I know what their record was last year. I know who they played, and who they lost to. This team went 5-2 over their last 7 games, losing only to EWU and NAU. They were a different team than the one that started the year 0-4. For the record, those are NOT two of the 20 teams I believe WSU could beat (of the 46 in the poll---nor is Montana or Cal Poly)....THey finished 4-4 in conference last year, and with a bounce here or there, could have been 6-2. THAT'S the Weber I'm talking about.

UC Davis could be good this year. They return 9 starters on offense and have one of the deepest set of WR in the FCS. They struggled defensively last year, but had some injuries that really hurt them (perseason All-American DT Faletoese for one). If their defense rebounds and their new QB does well, they could make some noise.

How about Lehigh?

I don't know if you are baiting the starter of this thread, but I think Lehigh has too many question marks on offense at this point to feel confident that they will make a big statement this year. Questions at QB and receiver are at the forefront and there seems to be some dispute whether Lehigh's O-line was the source of problems last year. (I think the entire O was to blame.) The defense should be outstanding this year, but I'm not sure Lehigh is ready for prime time. The last couple of recruiting classes, including this year's, appear to be very strong, so there could be some upside surprises in 2008. If Lehigh can settle on a QB that can really just manage the offense and not make mistakes at critical points like last year, a couple of more wins this year could be possible. Confidence in the head coach, Coen, is dissipating fast, so a quick start would help. We'll get a real feel for how good (or bad) Lehigh is when they visit Villanova in week 2.

I'm not convinced Weber will be good this year; I've heard it for 3 years, and this conjecture has yet to be shown. However, when the easiest game you play in the first four weeks is Montana State, I think that's saying something for losing all four games.

The QB position definately seemed to be unsettled when you guys came up to Colgate. They kept switching QBs, and running different sets of plays for each of them. The rest of the offense never really got into a rhythm

It's true that Coen is trying to overhaul the offense, going from one that liked to air it out to a more conservative, run-based attack, right? If so, I wonder if he'd need another season or two to really get his recruits in there to make a real difference xconfusedx

How about Lehigh?

Just got in late tonight. LUHawker's reply is quite on the mark. Lehigh could well be a big surprise this year if a QB steps forward and runs the offense AND the O-line does a credible job. Defense should be stellar as well as special teams. Kicking game should be one of the best in the East. So with a strong D and good special teams, the team should be in position to win a lot of games...can they win the close ones that over the past couple years that have gone the other way? Lehigh could well go 9-2/8-3 this year, and with some wrong bounces or blown plays go 4-7. I tend to think a 7-4/8-3 record is most likely..The only game where we should be prohibitive underdogs is at Villanova..A win at Villanova will speak volumes as to where this team can go.
