High School -- Leonardi caught 61 passes for 827 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior under former Cal Poly offensive lineman George Hurley at Newbury Park High. He also rushed for two scores, giving him 12 touchdowns and a total of 107 points for the Panthers. On defense he notched 51 tackles (36 solo) along with two pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. Leonardi also had a 34.7 punting average, kicked off 41 times, was 24-for-26 on PAT kicks and 3-for-6 on field goals, averaged 15.2 yards per punt return with a long of 60 yards and 20.8 on kickoff returns with a long of 33 yards as the Panthers finished 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the Marmonte League. As a junior, Leonardi caught 13 passes, notched 52 tackles (41 solo), punted for a 32.1 average and also compiled 7.8 punt return and 18.7 kickoff return averages as Newbury Park went 8-4 overall and 5-2 in Marmonte League games. He kicked game-winning 32-yard field goal to lead East to 10-7 win over West in 34th Annual Ventura County East-West All-Star Game on June 9 at Moorpark High School; he also caught four passes in the game. Leonardi also ran on the Panthers’ track and field team.
