At the PIAA track and field championships yesterday, Easton's Chanelle Price ran a 2:02.9 in the 800m breaking the 28 year old record in both PA and the US. The PA record was 2:05.47 and the US record had been 2:04.5. Price was not even pushed winning the race with over 5 seconds between her next challenger..what if she had been really pushed down the stretch? She will be attending the Olympic tryouts and is set to attend the University of Tennesee on a track scholarship (obviously).

At the same meet, Easton pole vaulter, Abby Shaffer, broke the state record with a vault of 13.5'...the previous record of 13' having also been held by an Easton girl in 2004.

That was a great race by her but believe it or not, it was not even her personal record. She ran a 2:02.38 USATF national outdoor meet last year and 2:02.76 at last years Nike Outdoor Nationals race. By the way, she won this race by about 10 seconds yesterday so the fact that she ran that fast is all the more impressive.

The US record she broke was the National Federation of State High School Associations record. Not sure what that is but my guess is a race where high schools sponsor the race. The NON race where she ran 2:02.76 is all high schoolers but the high schools can't sponsor the runners in that race. I assume the Pennsylvania record was the same thing. The actual Junior record is 2:00.07. Hope she can get that. This is the big part of the season where she can step up.

Wow.

There is a soph. in Fargo that just set the state record at 2:10.78. Doubt she ever gets down to 2:02's, though.

I myself have always been fascinated as to why all of the sprint records are held by people who have large amounts of skin pigment.

Is it socially motivated? Or perhaps is it a coincidence that increased skin pigment coincides with increased fast twitch fiber density?
