I'm trying to keep up with the CAA baseball tournament, but I don't get it.
It's double elimination, here are the results and schedule so far:
Wednesday, May 21
#2 James Madison 6, #5 Old Dominion 1
#3 George Mason 8, #4 William & Mary 7 (10)
#1 UNC Wilmington 11, #6 Towson 5
Thursday, May 22
#6 Towson 17, #5 Old Dominion 10
#4 William & Mary 11, #1 UNC Wilmington 8
#2 James Madison 9, #3 George Mason 4
Friday, May 23
#1 UNC Wilmington vs. #3 George Mason
#4 William & Mary vs. #6 Towson
#2 James Madison vs. Winner of Game 7 (UNC-W/GM)
Saturday, May 24
Game 10 - Presumably the championship game
As you can see, JMU is the only undefeated team. But, they have to play the winner of a loser's bracket game. What happens if they lose that game? Then you have three one-loss teams left on Saturday. How does that work? I know some other conferences do this and I think our local high schools use this bracket to. Does anybody know how it works?
Thanks.

This is the format the NCAA used to use. The Big South is the same way.

But, that doesn't clarify what happens if JMU loses Game 9. I think one of those Winner, Game 9 should be Loser, Game 9.

This is why lacrosse is so much better than baseball!

I don't understand why you just don't have a loser's bracket and a winner's bracket....

That is a messed up bracket. I've never seen one with 6 teams before. Always only seen with 7 or 8. My opinion 1 and 2 should have had byes and 3/6 and 4\5 should have played. Since 4 lost 3, why does 4 have to play 1. They could have been eliminated before the winner of 5\6 is eliminated. It's just messed up to me. And you're right I have no idea what happens if the undefeated team should lose. Most of the time the undefeated team is automatically in the championship and the rest duke it out for the other spot in the championship game. But that's not what is going on here. Sorry I'm not any help.

The SWAC has used 4,6, and 8 team brackets before. This year they did double elimination with a single game final.

The SLC used to do the bracket with six teams. Basically, there are several brackets which will be used based on the amount of teams remaining.
The CAA bracket is completely explained here. Scroll down and you'll see the scenarios pending the remainder of the bracket.

...another one bites the dust!

Thanks. It makes sense now...well, the bracket does. Why they do it this way still doesn't.

Wilmington is now out. Looks like CAA will get 2 bids. JMU in the driver's seat with 0 losses. Tribe, Towson & Mason need to win 3 more while JMU needs 2 more. Loser of Tribe-Towson game coming up is out.

What I don't get is why only six teams now that the CAA has more members? The SoCon tourney at least had play-in tourney games for the bottom four teams and then had those two and the other six in an eight-team double-elimination like the CWS use to have before they changed to the Best of 3 Final series.
At least have eight teams in it and make it simpler for everyone. The format they have now is too screwy. It all depends on who wins Game 5 for the schedule the rest of the way.

Dukes come back on Mason last night. Face Towson for the championship. Towson has to win twice,

He pitched quite the game to win the title. 4-hitter.
