In no particlular order
Red Sox end 86 years of misery by beating the St. Louis Cardinals in game 4 of the 2004 World Series.
Adam Vinitieri nails a field goal as time expires lifting the Patriots to a 20-17 win over the heavily favored St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI.
Corey Joe Ficek scores four unanswered goals to lead Manchester Memorial High over top seed and heavy favorite Concord Crimson Tide to win the NHIAA Division I Hockey Championship 4-2.
Jon Lester tosses a no hitter against the Kansas City Chiefs in a 7-0 win.
Clay Buchholz ties a major league record by tossing a no hitter in just his second major league game as Boston beat Baltimore 10-0.
Mo Lewis lays a vicious hit on Drew Bledsoe early in the 2001 season nearly killing Bledsoe, the rest is history. (Dont get me wrong, it wasnt joyous at the time and its not joyous what happened to Bledsoe but the end result is.)
Team USA upset the heavily favored Soviets in the Olympic semifinals on their way to winning the gold medal. "Do you believe in miracles?"
2005 Red Sox home opener. Johnny Pesky gets ring.
Anytime the Jets, Yankees, Knicks lose.
The day Grady Little was fired or the day John Henry bought the Red Sox.

How do you spell relief? T-U-G-G-E-R!
My personal most joyous sports moment?
4th and goal, 30 seconds left in the game, down by 4....
Final Score Towson State 32 Delaware 30
The sound of 20,000+ fans going completely silent from the bottom of the pile was deafening!

That I remember in my lifetime (basically 1994-)
In no particular order:
Steelers win Super Bowl XL
Steelers beat Colts in division round (Vandershank)
Braves win 1995 World Series
Braves come back after being down 3-1 to the Cards in the 1996 NLCS and end up winning the pennant (Game 7 was a 15-0 blowout).
Brown wins 2005 Ivy League Football Title (first outright title for Brown)
Patriots lose Super Bowl XLII (I love the tears of Pats fans)
A couple from when I was in high school:
Centennial (my high school) beats bitter rival Chattahoochee to win first ever region basketball title
Centennial comes back from a 14 point deficit in last five minutes against Chattahoochee in a football game to win 21-14 in regulation (included a fumble return for a touchdown in the last minute).
Centennial goes 10-0 for first time in school history in football regular season
Centennial makes state championship in basketball after 21 game win streak.

1. October 1987 - Twins win World Series... (an entire region gets a big monkey off its back)
2. October 1991 - Jack Morris goes 10 innings, the 3-2-3 double play, the fake out of Lonnie Smith, Dan Gladden and the ultimate hustle double.
3. October 1991 - Game 6... Kirby Puckett... "In to left center... for Mitchell... AND WE'LL SEE YOU TOMORROW NIGHT!"
4. October 20, 2008: NDSU 27 Minnesota 21, 30,000 NDSU fans turn the Metrodome in to a southern annex of the Fargodome.
5. May 2006: after 9 years of work... the Minnesota Legislature approves a funding plan for an outdoor ballpark for the Twins
6. May 1991 - North Stars upset presidents trophy winner Chicago Blackhawks in 6.
7. September 30, 2006. Twins rally all the way back to win the AL Central on the final day of the season. 45,000 Twins fans pack the Metrodome to watch the end of the Tigers-Royals game, with the Royals coming back to beat the Tigers. The Twins joined the fans on the field, and partied with them... an amazing moment.
8. NDSU beats Montana in Wash-Grizz as a D-II squad.
9. NDSU beats Wisconsin at the Kohl Center - their first high profile D-1 win
10. June 1997 - Minnesota gets professional hockey back.

Ahhh, a much more fun topic, thanks T. xthumbsupx I don't want to rank them, but the best for me...
- 2003 Hens semifinal win over Wofford. The NC was great, but I wasn't in Nooga and being in the Tub when the fans stormed the field was awesome.
- 1974 and 75 Flyers Stanley Cups - I remember running out of the house uncontrollably screaming at the top of my lungs.
- 1980 Phillies WS - similar to above
- First two Steelers SB's... yes, a little known fact that I was a Steelers fan as a kid. Had the jacket, hat and mittens to prove it. My brother-in-law was/is a Steelers fan and I guess it was contageous. Interestingly enough, I was NOT rooting for them by the time they won 3 and 4. By then I was diehard Iggles.
- Little League championship c. 1977 playing for "Happy Harry's" (enough snickers, it was a local pharmacy chain).
- 1980 Miracle on Ice - I remember watching that one.
UGH, I just realized all my best sports moments except for the Hens are 25+ years old. xbawlingx Damn you T. :p

1. UNH putting the ball all over the deck in the 2005 Playoff game vs. UNI and losing 24-21 despite gaining 600+ yards of offense. Texas State would have been the semi-final opponent in Durham. IIRC, they hadn’t played a game all year in under 50 degree weather. A 16” snowfall in Durham ended about six hours before the scheduled evening kickoff. I would have liked UNH’s chances in that game to get to Chatty.
2. UNH losing the Ice Hockey National Championship in overtime in 1999 to Maine when the Black Bear goaltender made a tremendous save on a shot that was so close to going in that I was already out of my chair ready to celebrate. He played the puck to a teammate and Maine went down the ice and scored on that rush.
3. 1986 World Series -- Bob Stanley throwing the wild pitch, not the Billy Buck play. But have to throw in John McNamara not making the usual Dave Stapleton for Billy Buck defensive switch at first base.
4. 1978 -- Bucky F’ing Dent. Throw in the blind stab of a catch by Lou Piniella in right field for good measure.
5. UNH not making the fourth and one near the five yard line in the final minute at UMass to lose 24-17 in the 2006 playoffs.
6. UNI hitting the TD pass with seven seconds left to defeat UNH 38-35 in the 2007 playoffs.
7. 1977 -- UNH blows their undefeated season and number one ranking in D-II by being upset in Kingston by URI 21-20 in their eighth game of the season. Then lose 19-6 two weeks later to UMass in Durham before a record Cowell Stadium crowd of 20K to lose the playoff bid (AQ) to the Minutemen. Only eight teams in the playoffs back then and the loss to URI killed any at-large opportunity for the Wildcat Seniors QB Jeff Allen (3.5 year starter ) and RB Bill Burnham (#1 RB at UNH until Jerry Azumah)) to go out with three straight playoff bids (semi-finals in 1975 and quarterfinals in 1976). (Pours salt into the wounds of VT UNH Fan 53!)
8. 1976 -- UNH misses a PAT in Bozeman to lose 17-16 to eventual D-II National Champion Montana State. Jeff Allen just over throws an open WR Lee Pope on a fly pattern in the final minute in mid-teen, lord knows what the wind chill was, weather.
9. Back in the early 70’s, UNH was the number one team in the East for the first time in their history and a favorite to make the four team NCAA Tournament (would have been their first bid) when their All-American goaltender Cap Raeder got hurt in the Eastern Quarterfinal game (or just before it). UNH is eliminated by RPI 8-7 despite the greatest hockey I’ve ever seen when the Wildcats scored three goals in 1:45 during a three on three scenario.
10. 2003 -- Minnesota blowing open a tie game in the final period of the Ice Hockey National Championship game.
Honorable Mention (what can I say other than I‘m an Old Phart):
- 2003 Aaron F’ing Boone, the Grady Little sticking with Pedro too long game.
- 2004 Getting smoked by Montana in the Quarterfinals in Missoula.
- The pony tailed POS stealing the Whalers from Hartford and moving them to North Carolina.
- 2002 UNH getting smoked by Maine 7-2 in the national semi-final ice hockey game.
- Tony Perez hitting a three run homer off a Leephus pitch (think slow pitch softball) to lead the Reds to a seventh game World Series victory over the Red Sox.
- 1994 UNH loses to App State 17-10 in OT in a Quarterfinal match-up in Durham when they fumble on the first play after App scored in OT.
- 1977 UNH makes its first Frozen Four appearance against a huge favorite in the Mark Johnson led Wisconsin Badgers. UNH loses 4-3 in OT on a goal off a face-off just to the left of their goaltender.
- 2008 UNH Women’s Ice Hockey Team in the National Semi-Final game holds Minnesota-Duluth without a shot on goal for almost half the game and out shoots them by a very wide margin, but doesn’t bury the biscuit and loses by one goal. MN-Duluth goes on to win the National Championship.
1. Carlton Fisk hitting the home run in game six at Fenway in extra innings to force a game seven in the 1975 World Series. (Pro Sports meant a lot more to me back then.)
2. 2004 watching first hand as UNH beat Georgia Southern 27-23 in Statesboro in the First Round of the Playoffs.
3. 2004 witnessing Ricky Santos in his first game at QB hitting David Ball for a 40+ yard TD pass down the right sideline to defeat the defending I-AA Champion Delaware Blue Hens at the Tub.
4. 2004 thinking we didn’t have a chance then watching Ricky Santos in his first start defeat Rutgers 35-24. And again in 2006 thinking that UNH couldn’t win, watching UNH dismantle Northwestern 34-17 in Evanston.
5. In 1988 a 3-24 8th seeded UNH basketball team defeated 1st seeded 23-4 Siena College in what to this day is still the greatest upset in North Atlantic/ECAC North/America East Basketball Tournament history.
6. In the first row of the first balcony at the old Boston Garden right behind a goal, watching UNH defeat Cornell 10-9 in double overtime to go to its first Eastern Championship game and earn its first NCAA bid (right into the Frozen Four in those days).
7. Watching along with an over capacity crowd at Cowell as UNH beat UMass 14-11 in 1975 for the first time since 1968 to earn the Yankee Conference AQ to the D-II Tournament. Until this game most thought that UNH couldn’t compete with UMass on the gridiron. Repeat performance in Amherst wasn’t as dramatic in 1976 with a 23-0 win but still plenty sweet.
8. In the stands when UNH won its first ECAC Ice Hockey Championship over Dartmouth in 1979 at the old Boston Garden to gain its 2nd Frozen Four bid..
9. Watching UNH win its first Hockey East Championship over Maine 3-1 in 2002 at the Fleet Center.
10. Red Sox World Series win in 2003. In 1975 or 1986 this would have been #1 or #2 on my list, but too much crap (strikes, work stoppages, Carl Everett head butts, etc.) over the years took away from my interest in pro sports. Not even coming back from 0-3 against the Yankees can move this higher up the list.
Being in attendance for items #2-9 was a huge factor in the Joyousness Factor!!!! And I have to admit not watching the USA-Russia hockey game until after I knew the results just knocked it out of the top ten for me.

3. 1988 Kirk Gibson's home run (and eventual Dodger Series win) over the "unbeatable" Oakland A's.
4. 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers finally win a series over the Yankees.
5. 1976 Rick Monday saving the American Flag from burning by protesters in the Dodger outfield. (Monday was a Cub at the time)
6. 1978 D-II Cal Poly's 26-0 win over I-A Fresno State. This was the last time Fresno State played in San Luis Obispo.
7. 2005 Cal Poly's 35-21 win over Montana in Missoula in I-AA playoffs.
8. 1980 D-II Cal Poly's 23-20 win over eventual I-AA champ Boise State.
9. 1974 USC 55 Notre Dame 24. USC wins after being down 24-0.

In chrono order but all are very special:
1965 - Bill Bradley leads Princeton to Final Four
1969 - Jets over Colts in SB III/Mets over Orioles in WS
1970 - Knicks over Lakers for NBA Championship
1973 - Notre Dame wins Sugar Bowl and CF National Championship
1977 - Colgate 23, Rutgers 0
1980 - USA Hockey takes Gold at Olympics
1982 - Jimmy Connors wins Wimbledon
1986 - Jack Nicklaus wins the Masters/Mets over Red Sox in WS
1996 - Princeton 43, UCLA 41 in NCAA First Round
2003 - Colgate defeats UMass, Western Illinois and Florida Atlantic to reach NCAA I-AA Finals (even though we lost to the Blue Hens - see the last photo in the post above)
I know, I cheated - 1969 and 1986 have two milestones. ;)

In order, my recent top ASU moments
1 - Jason Hunter clobbers Ingle Martin in the 2005 semi-finals, forcing the fumble that sealed ASU's first trip to the national champoinship
2 - One week later, UNI's Eric Sanders gets a similar clobbering, ASU wins first national title.
3 - ASU beats Furman by one point, 2002...the game had something of an unorthodox ending, as I recall.
4 - ASU beats UMass to take the 2006 title
5 - ASU beats Michigan...the game had something of an unorthodox ending, as I recall.
6 - ASU sneaks by JMU in the first round of the 2008 playoffs...the game had something of an unorthodox ending, as I recall.
7 - Richie Williams' astounding performance against Furman in 2004 - probably the brightest spot in an otherwise below-average season.
8 - ASU's various laffers during the 2006 season...over Furman 40-7, over Citadel 42-13, winning the first three playoff games a combined 132-69, with most of the 69 being realtively meaningless.
9 - Friday night semi-final game vs. Richmond, the last game of ASU's 2007 season with any drama.
10 - Third national title win, vs. Delaware.

Top 5 for me is the 1995 championship run. Winning the first 3 by a combined score of 168-14, and the final over Marshall at their house 22-20.
Second 5 is the 2001 championship run.

2 - One week later, UNI's Eric Sanders gets a similar clobbering, ASU wins first national title.
Hunter clobbered Sanders on the play before the fumble (and I mean CLOBBERED). On the fumble play, Sanders arm right before going forward hit his own o-lineman causing the fumble.
It happened right in front of me, so I remember it vividly. :D
Here's my list of ones I saw as they happened.
t-1. App beating UNIty for the 05 NC. (ESPN announcers talked about "UNIty" the whole game)
t-1a. (I prefer it more than the UNI game, but it's not as important) App over the Furmies in the 05 semis. One of those magical endings.
t-3. App over UMass in the 06 NC. Really good FB game. Best game out of the three NC's.
t-3. App over UD in the 07 NC. App was tired of the close playoffs games and it was the most beautiful blowout involving a team not named Western or Furman.
5. App over Michigan. It was kind of a big deal.
6. App over JMU in the Miracle on the Mountain II. If they haven't named in MotM2 already, they should. Basically the game from when Mickey Matthews went for it on 4th and 1 (in retrospect, not the greatest idea) to the end of the game was a series of miracles.
7. App over Richmond in the 07 semis. First night game in Boone for me and first one in a long time for App. Just an awesome atmosphere.
8. George Mason beating UConn to go to the Final Four. Just a great sports moment for the little guys.
9. UNCW (I'm from Wilmington originally) beating SoCal in the 4-13 game in the first round of the NCAA tourney in OT. They then lost in a close one to Indiana who went to the finals in the 2nd round.
10. As much as I hate them, I was rooting for hell for Davidson in the NCAA Tourney. One shot from making the Final Four. It would have been awesome to see them make it. The run though, beating #7 Gonzaga, #2 Georgetown and #4 Wisconsin before falling to eventual Nat'l Champs #1 Kansas was very impressive and showed the country what the SoCon knew for the last two years. Davidson was very good. (FYI, App is the last SoCon team to beat Curry, 81-74 AT Davidson in the 06-07 season)

4) Duke beating UNLV and Kansas for it's 1st title.
5) JoePa fnally winning one over UGA in the Sugar Bowl 27-23.
6) App State and Davidson heroics this past year.
7) Furman beating the Tarholes 28-3 in 1999.
8) The Islanders winning the 1980 Stanley Cup.
9) NC State beating Houston
10) The Catch (49ers over Cowboys).

Don't get too upset; remember that for some of us, I-AA/FCS football is comparatively new. For example, I go back to the days of the Middle Three (Lafayette, Lehigh, Rutgers) and when Colgate's biggest game each year was Syracuse, a series which ended its annual games in 1961 (though additional games were plated in 1981, 1982 and 1987). The NCAA did not even divide teams into the "University" and "College" Divisions until, I believe, about 1963. As a result, there were not that many "championship" moments, as most small to middle sized schools played a regular season schedule and that was that. In those days (if you were in that size category), if you beat your arch-rival (provided you had one), that was the big thing.

xconfusedx I counted 5 out of 10 with a FCS mention. It is in the "Other Sports" forum. The schools in the FCS with success are few, and in FBS now, compared to those who have not.

My team has had much success since the term FCS came into play. But my most joyous I-AA memories are:
beating Alcorn and Steve McNair 47-31 to secure Southern's first SWAC title since 1975.
winning the Heritage Bowl 11-0 against South Carolina State in 1993.
the comeback from being down 31-14 against Grambling in the 1999 Bayou Classic. The Tigers dropped a 4th down TD that would have possibly sealed the game for them at 38-14.
Also climbing to the top 5 of I-AA in 1999.

10-Giants-Vikings, 2000 NFC Title Game. Everyone talked about how the Vikings were the better team, how they couldn't be stopped, at least certainly not by the Giants. 60 minutes later: 41-0 New York.
9-Yankees-Red Sox, 2003 ALCS, Game 7. In the late innings, I started sitting when Boston was up, and pacing when the Yankees came up. Did it work? Well, you decide. I was in my dorm room with a group of about half Yankee fans/half neutrals. We all moaned a bit when Boone came up to lead off the 11th. I think my words were something along the lines of, "Aaron Boone? Aww man, a critical at-bat in extra innings, and it has to be.....BOOOOONE!! AARON BOONE!!!"
8-Colgate-Cornell, 2007. Senior year, first win against the Red since Freshman year. Dekanich was a wall. An early 2-0 Colgate lead was erased early in the 3rd. Marc Fulton roofed an open net shot late in the 3rd, then the game's best skater Jesse Winchester fired home the empty-netter with 0:01 to go. A roar came from the crowd
7-Colgate over UMass and FAU, 2003 I-AA Playoffs. These are together because of how similar they were. Underestimated by the opposition, Colgate just flat out dominated the games. UMass wasn't ready for the cold or the team they were facing, and FAU wasn't ready to be physically beat up in the heat
6-USA, 2002 World Cup. I was up at 5 in the morning to see them beat Portugal, then beat Mexico in a game that really counted, then bowed out by thoroughly outplaying Germany in the quarterfinal. There's hope for this country in soccer
5-Arsenal-Villareal, 2006 Champions League Semifinals. I watched Arsenal run to the UCL Final while studying abroad in London. Our regular hangout was an Arsenal bar, and the place absolutely erupted when Lehmann stoned Riquelme on a last-minute penalty that sealed their trip to Paris
4-Colgate-WIU, 2003 I-AA Quarterfinals. The snow, the back and forth, the late Leatherneck TD that shouldn't have counted, the later dive by Jamaal Branch for the lead, the interception that sealed it, the students storming the field and the goalposts coming down. Greatest football game I'd ever seen
3-Yankees, 1998-2000 World Series. They're all special for their own reasons. The unbeatable '98 team, "Team of the Century" beats the "Team of the Decade" in 1999, beating the Mets in the big one in 2000. All great to see, and inseperable from my life in those days
2-Giants over Patriots, Super Bowl XLII. The greatest football game I've ever seen. The great D-Line, the last drive, The Play, "Manning lobs it...Burress alone...Touchdown New York!" The only drawback was that I had to see it in Texas, and not at home in NY
1-Yankees, 1996 World Series. You never forget your first. Rookie of the Year Derek Jeter, Jim Leyritz, John "Load the bases then strike-out the side" Wetteland, "Charlie Hayes...makes the catch!" I lived in North Carolina at the time, surrounded by Braves fans. I got your "Team of the Decade" right here :D
Honorable Mention: Colgate-Cornell (2004 Regular Season Series), Colgate-Clarkson (2008 ECAC Quarterfinals)

I couldn't put them in order... I just did it by date...
2008- NDSU is officially a member of Division 1
2007- NDSU: 31, Cal Poly: 28 - Walker to Heck for 80 yds and a TD!
2007- NDSU: 27, Minnesota: 21 - No explanation needed.
2007- NDSU: 44, Central Michigan: 14 - Just a beautiful butt- whoopin!
2005- Holy Cross: 4, Minnesota: 3 F/OT- Biggest upset in college hockey
history & probably the best hockey game I've ever been to!
2004- Yankees blowing a 3-0 in the ALDS to Boston - Gotta love watchin
the Yankees lose- especially to Boston!
1999- Denver wins back-to-back Super Bowls
1998- Denver wins their first Super Bowl - John Elway going airborne!
1998- Atlanta beats the Vikings when Gary Anderson chokes - :-p
1991- Kirby Puckett's "We'll see ya tomorrow night" World Series Walk-off

10. 1999 - Alabama beats UF in the SEC Championship game, proving to all that the game in the Swamp was no fluke.
9. 1995 - Braves beat the Indians in the World Series
8. 2006 - Appalachian beats Youngstown St. in the semifinal and I storm KBS' field for the first (of hopefully 4 times)
7. 2006 - Appalachian beats UMASS in the FCS championship. This would be higher, but that season I got spoiled by big wins, and almost expected to win.
6. 2005 - Appalachian beats UNI in the I-AA championship. I had just gotten into ASU at this point (and thought I was going to 'Bama) but it was the first time I ever was fully engulfed in a game that I was watching on TV and had my heart racing every second of it.
5. 1999 - Alabama beats Florida at The Swamp to end their home winning streak. I was just fully getting into sports at this time, and thought that Shaun Alexander was a near god after he ran in OT.
4. 2007 - Appalachian beats Delaware in the FCS championship. I was definately most excited of the three about this one. I lived in Delaware for six years so a bunch of my friends were talking smack about how Flacco was gonna light us up. Afwul quiet those next few days though. Wonder why?
3. 2005 - Appalachian beats Furman in the semi-finals. First App game I ever watched, and I've been hooked ever since. I knew something was gonna happen when Richie went down, but I had no idea that Trey would play that well to save the day.
2. 2005 - Alabama beats UT on "The Fumble" forced by Roman Harper to cause a touchback, which lead to a possession where Croyle hooked up with Hall on a long gain, and eventually a FG by Jamie Christensen. I got so excited about this drive/game I cut the back of my neck on the fan in my bedroom from jumping up and down. I thought I was going to Bama at the time, so with that excitement and the fact the Tide FINALLY beat the rivals from the nroth, I went bonkers.
1. 2007 - Appalachian beats Michigan. Need I say more? It was the first game I ever had a rooting interest in where I was out in public watching the game, and I made a complete fool of myself throwing my little brother into the air after the game and taunting some Michigan fan who told me to shut up and go back to my "Hick School in the Hills". I live in Greensboro, and was at a place in High Point and couldn't calm down until I got home. It was amazing.

1.NDSU beats Wisconsin in basketball, huge upset that nobody expected
2.NDSU beats Minnesota in football, 30k Bison fans taking over the dome and a win over the major regional college is something I just won't forget.
3.NDSU beats Montana, great game and it set the tone for our DI move
4.Twins win the World Series in 1991, I am a diehard Twins fan and this would be higher if I wasn't 6 at the time it happend. However, I do remember where I was when the Twins won it.
5.Jordan beats the Jazz to win it for the Bulls in the NBA finals.
6.Diamondbacks beat the Yanks in game seven. This is back when the Yanks were actually a force and nothing was sweeter then watching the Dbacks take them down.
7.Bison women win their third straight DII basketball title and finish the season 32-0.
8.Twins finally get their new stadium in May of 2006

Most of them are Lehigh-related, but not all.
In no particular order:
* Lehigh/Lafayette 1995, Murray Goodman, Bethlehem, PA, "The Catch" for the title, 37-30 in the dark.
* Hitting two home runs to give my little league team a big victory over Bedient's Hardware in 1983.
* Lehigh/Lafayette 1990, Fisher Field, Easton, PA 35-14 - notable simply because it was my first taste of victory and I got a sliver of the last wooden goalpost ever used in "The Rivalry". (Yes, all by myself.)
* We had one win in our softball league in 1999. My scoring from first on a single - running through every sign - tied the game and spurred the rally to secure the win.
* Lehigh/Hofstra 2001, Murray Goodman, Bethlehem, PA, "The Comeback With Cianello", 27-24, first modern I-AA playoff game at Goodman with the impossible comeback. Stormed the field after the game.
* Our high school team coming out of nowhere to win the Class L Championship in football. (And how I wished I could play on that team in some shape or form.)
* Lehigh beating FBS Buffalo in 2002, 37-26. I didn't go to the game, but I drove two and a half hours for the honor of watching the first "official" win for Lehigh over an FBS team.
* Seven straight Red Sox wins to "reverse the curse". It brought together my entire family and erased all that frustration against the Yankees. Growing up a Red Sox fan, it was sweet.
* Brian Milne forcing the St. Louis Rams' return man to fumble to preserve the New Orleans Saints' first-ever playoff victory in 2000. They almost blew a collosal 21 point lead to the "Greatest Show On Turf", but like the Red Sox win, history was meant to be broken that day.
* Roger Clemens and Bryan MacNamee.
