NE MT GRIZZ's alma mater is off to Lewiston, ID for the NAIA World Series!!!!
The Jimmies made their last and only other appearance in 2004.
They lost in two, but were close games if I recall.
The Jimmies are coached by an old teammate of NE MT, and he has made the progam the best it has ever been.
GO JIMMIES

Isn't it too cold up there to play baseball? How many games do you get in?

Their games in the Super Regionals put them at 50 total games played.
They had about 8 games cancelled because of Spring storms.
We usually have a spring trip to Florida and play 8-10 games and then start home games about two weeks after that. You should see some of the sunburns the pale boys from NODAK come home with.
My senior year we played double headers on 9 consecutive days to make up for cancelled conference games due to weather.

Congrats to your Alma Mater, Griz.
On a related note, I noticed that high schools in Montana started playing baseball...when did THAT happen? Back in the day it was only Little League, Babe Ruth, then the Mavericks (if you were good enough). When did the high schools develop school teams?

I didn't know that they did.
The Legion programs in the Southern MT, have already been playing games.
I played my Legion ball in Scobey, and we didn't play our first game until the last week of May.

High school students in Montana still only have the option of playing baseball on Legion teams. To my knowledge, school sponsored teams have not been created.

I saw an article in the Missoulian (online) about two weeks ago that talked about Helgate beating Sentinel 5-1, or something like that.... I'm sure of it.... xconfusedx xconfusedx xconfusedx

You probably lost your train of thought as you were drooling over pictures of H.S. SOFTBALL players.

ND High School baseball still gets in a pretty decent High School season each year, with a State Tournament the last week of May/first week of June. Legion starts that same time for the schools not involved in State HS baseball. So it surprises me that Montana couldn't get a HS season in either.
NE MT Grizz, do you think its going to be the Division 2 Jamestown Jimmies in a few years?? There have always been those rumblings on message boards regarding the possibility.

I live in Mayville and follow the DAC rather closely. I have/had alot of friends over the last few years who have played on the various teams for Mayville State. It would be great to see JC get another National Championship for the DAC. But I have to say that is a pretty big long shot.
By the way NE MT Grizz. I grew up in Grenora, ND. I played basketball against Scobey a few times growing up.

Dakotadan,
I haven't heard much about the Jimmies going D2, but with the success of the baseball, basketball, and football teams lately, it wouldn't surprise me.
I don't understand why MT doesn't play HS baseball. I think a 20-30 game season would be very realistic, even in the Northern parts of the state.
As far as the Jimmies in the World Series, I'd be happy with 1 or 2 wins.
They went out in 2 games in 2004.

Before the late and great NCC disbanded, JC was a popular mention on the NSIC message board (d2football.com) as a team that could join Mary in the D2 ranks. Minot State was also a mention. Those rumors have probably died though with the additions of the remaining NCC teams. It wouldn't surprise me that the DAC as a whole re-examines a move to D2 in 7-10 years. I grew up in the Minot area and the athletic director there has made no secret of his ambitions to one day make the move.
Anyways, best of luck to JC and hopefully they can make a run at the prize.

The Jimmies went out in 2 again.xbawlingx xbawlingx
They were competitive again, and actually had a lead late their first game.
Game 1 loss to Spring Arbor, Michigan 7-5. (2007 National Runner Up)
Game 2 loss to Embry-Riddle, Florida 10-5.
Both of these teams are still alive in the tournament.
I hope one of them can make a run.

Tough losses for the Jimmies.
On a side note, the State Class B Baseball tournament is being held in Jamestown this weekend. Just started today.
