Eastern Kentucky's streak has been very close to ending several times:

2006: started season 2-5, ended 4-0 to keep 6-5 season

2004: started season 3-5, ended 3-0 to keep 6-5 season

2003: started season 3-5, ended 4-0 to keep 7-5 season

1998: started 5-5, won last game to save 6-5 season

I don't have any stats but I expected to see VMI on that list of losing seasons. I know they didn't win alot of games when they were in the SoCon.

Found it... VMI had 17 losing seasons in a row from 1982 to 2001. Man that is tough.

In the I-AA/FCS years, at > .500, New Hampshire has 9 consecutive winning seasons 1983-1991. If you change to greater than or equal to .500, then it would be 14 seasons 1983-1996. The most consecutive losing seasons has been three, 1997-1999 and 2001-2003.

Going back into the complete history, I don't see a longer than 9 game winning streak. UNH had a streak of 17 consecutive losing seasons, 1900-1916

Only among surviving progams. Siena College was 22-83 (.209) with one winning season in I-AA before dropping football after the 2003 season. The 'aints had been 11-34 (.244) in five seasons of D-III before that.

SFUPA has a winning % of .272

Savannah St. is 11-72 (.139) since joining I-AA in 2000, though they had reasonable success in D-II.

It's worth mentioning that the season 31 years ago that breaks up the streak was a 5-5 year at a time when playing 10 games was not uncommon. It's actually approaching 40 years since our last season with an actual losing record. There have been some less than dominant years, but with the way the EKU president basically tried to kill the program in the 1980s we're pretty proud to have been able to maintain a winning team for so many years.

"The streak" is a common topic of conversation at EKU, and was mentioned by former HC Danny Hope during the press conference introducing him as the new HC in waiting at Purdue.

I couldn't find our longest record over our history (not that it matters since it is the lowly D2), but I believe our current is 5. But since all of that was during our transition, none of it counts. So after next season we will be up to a grand total of 1.

Did I understand that all right for our FCS veterans?? I've heard that D2 doesn't count and transition doesn't count, so we don't have a streak right?

Even though it doesn't count our record is 26 years in a row, and we have had 42 out of the last 44. Looking to start a new one in FCS.

To put Furman's winning-season consistency in perspective....only 3 losing seasons in the last 30 years. Not 22 in a row, but that's still pretty impressive, especially given that Furman historically has played a very tough schedule for a I-AA/FCS team. They also churned out 14 in a row from 1980-1993...and several of those years, we took on multiple SEC/ACC foes.

I guess that's how how you win more SoCon championships than anyone else. And you can't take that from us, Appies, you hear?!

Or, you know, it will at least take a while...

UNI's winning season streak is only at 5 years, due to a 5-6 finish in 2002.
And they had another 5-6 year in 1988.
Other than those two years, every season from 1983 through 2007 has been above .500 (215-88-1, to be exact)

Harvard hasn't had a losing season since 1999 and 2000, where it finished at .500. The last losing season was 1998, at .400. (Darn the 10 game rule!) So, for the Crimson, it's 7 winning seasons.

Actually 9 in 35 years as a varsity program.

You missed '95 in D-II, total 31-12

1994-95 and 2005-06 were the only consecutive losing years.

I looked over Liberty's history and for losing seasons we had a long of 5 from 1998-2002 (6-6 2003) Liberty has had back to back winning seasons on a couple occasions but has never had more than 2 consecutive winning seasons. Im pretty sure that bit of history will be made this year.

No football 1953-1977 and other periods earlier, but still plugging away in the NEC.

That .272 actually only goes back to 1947 (from the michigan-football site). Going back to 1909, SFUPA's record is 207-355-16 (36%).

I never understood why they keep playing footbal in Loretto. They've always sucked.

Well, why do 100 or so I-AA schools keep playing, then? To give students the opportunity to compete, to grow as students, to learn lessons far beyond what's in a book or a lab.

I give SFPA all the credit for fighting the good fight.

The problem with St. Francis is the it's so hard to recruit in Loretto because of the location of the school, it's in the middle of nowhere. But i must say as a fan that the talent of SOME of there players on the team I must say are good players. I think this year coming up could be interesting. They have beatin CCSU in the last 4 yrs.xnodx. But that game between st. francis and indiana state would be a good game if ever scheduled.

But football is not required for any of that.
I'm not advocating that St. Francis drop the team, just baffled that they haven't done it. After all, it's their money and they're free to spend it as they see fit.
But, it does seem to me that they can spend that money elsewhere in the Athletic Department to achieve all things you said.

Or, to sumarize, your answer justifies athletics, but no one particular sport.
