View Full Version : Where is YOUR Hockeytown?

In Detriot the other night during a playoff game, there were many EMPTY SEATS watching GAME 1 of the Western Conf. Finals. This is unacceptable to this "Hockeytown." I guarentee you that this would never happen...as a matter of fact it literally HAS never happened in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Detriot, MI or St. Paul, MN? Your Hockeytown?...or another one eligible

Were the seats sold though? It's embarrassing to have empty seats, but I could see some folks who had been to most of the games skipping out on a weeknight. I think any of the original 6 cities would all have more of a claim to Hockeytown before St. Paul, though they would certainly be near or at the top of the list for American expansion teams. If you're going purely by sellouts though, there's a few warm weather cities that could give you a run for your money, considering hockey isn't a big sport outside of the NHL franchise.

If I had to pick one city, I'd say Montreal.

But Hockeytown should be a place where Hockey is praised. Montreal is a good example of that but also St Paul is a great example as well. Why not have Hockeytown in the State of Hockey? xeyebrowx

Part of the education bill in the Minnesota Legislative session this year calls for Hockey to be the official state sport... I can't believe that hasn't been declared already.

I am aware. By expansion, I meant cities with teams that were not the Original 6.

Perhaps when the war criminal Sherman ordered all the old men, women, and children out of Atlanta with no rations or transportation anywhere and if they didn't leave burnt their homes down around them?

I'd homerishly nominate Philly to be in the top ones mentioned (although not the top one). I'm not sure the Flyers ever had a season under 99% capacity even without winning the cup since 1975 and the Phantoms I think still hold the AHL season record for average attendance over 12,000 per game. xthumbsupx

Since you posted the old Flames jersey, I thought some more of the old teams should go up...

I'm not sure what hockey is actually, but I'm pretty certain they are very passionate about it in Philadelphia.

You know, looking at these again, I miss the simple masks with the big graphic designs. The new cages have so much airbrushing and so much going on you can't even really make anything out. They look like cheesy van paint jobs.

I like the way the Wild just stuck a finger in the eye of the Wings with "The State of Hockey". I think it was a great move.

One of my best friends still hates the Dallas Stars, and could never bring himself to cheer for anyone on that team. Minnesota is hockey territory, first and foremost; all other sports are secondary.

Norm Green is still a name not spoken in my household...

just another in a long line of transgressions by Dallas to the sporting world.
