So far this season, the UD offense hasn't shown up until the second half. We'll see if they show at all today. I know the conditions make things difficult on O, but Hofsta has at least shown some capability to move the ball.

I wouldn't say homerism, just poor timekeeping, UD would have had a good chance to spike the ball if the clock was stopped on time

The Hens are just not good. Defense doesn't tackle well, Sonny just can't hit receivers, the playcalling is very predictible and poor... the kicking game is just about the only bright spot. The Hens will have a tough time getting to 6-5.

I hate 4/5 wideouts near the goal line, always been a fan of a goal line formation, running the ball and playaction/bootleg etc.

I don't understand the offensive philosophy of the ud coaching staff. 1 down goal to go with over a minute to play and you don't set up a power run for Omar Cuff ? The UD Oline was getting punked but still that is gutcheck time. Riccio was a nervous nelly trying to execute and with nobody in the backfield, Hofstra's superb LBs were able to just pin their ears back and apply the pressure. Seems like UD played right into the strength of Hofstra's D and away from the UD offensive strength (Cuff). KC has some splainin' to do.

There were a lot a coaching decisions that could have been questioned... most notably the failure to attempt to run the ball with a 1st & goal inside the 5. But all that aside... I knew going into the season that this UD team was going to have be a lot better in October & November than they were in September or it was going to be a long year... unfortunately I have not seen any measurable improvement since their opening win over Lehigh. I haven't given up all hope of eventually seeing some of that needed improvement... but realistically the way things stand right now... UD will need some very good fortune the rest of the way to avoid a losing year.
PS... the deplorable condition of the UD field was an embarrassment and it looks like it will only get worse as the year goes on.

Absolutely agree regarding the field. This is a program that draws 23,000 every week (well, not today), and the field looked like some torn up high school field in Northern Maine. No more jokes about URI's field from the Delaware fans I guess.....

And four...not one... not two... but four back to back passes????
Yes the defense looked really bad not tackling...yes Riccio can't seem to be consistant and throws behind or low to most receivers...but none of that mattered when it was 1st and goal on the 5.

Coaches can't win. Last week. Missouri State fans were griping because their coach did not try a pass play when they had second and goal at the one yard line. They pounded it 3 times and got stuffed.

Worse than that is that they lined up with an empty backfield! If you are going to throw the ball on 1st and goal from the four (percentage wise a running down), why not do it off of play action to Cuff who they will certainly be keying on?
Sam Adams
October 9th, 2005, 11:52 AM
To line up with an empty backfield at the 4 is questionable strategy especially when your best player is a RB. To unsuccessfuly run that same play 4 times in a row is plain old stick your head in the sand BAD playcalling. To line up w/an empty backfield and unsuccessfully run the same play 4 times in a row AND not be able to block the same LB 4 times in a row is just unbelievable complete FUBAR.
Who the heck is in charge of that team? Did they not notice #48 coming right into the backfield each and every time they tried that play? Either you figure out a way to block that guy or you will not successfully run that play. After 2 times didn't somebody have the common sense to say - it ain't working KC...Run a different damn play coach...Get Omar Cuff the Ball and 1 frikken block!!!!

We're not even talking about draw, draw, draw, draw... but at least the threat of a draw, play action, option, shuffle pass..... anything but wide, shotgun formation, empty backfield...
