View Full Version : Spurs Should Be Embarrassed

Watching this game (and the last one)....it's just an embarrassment to the NBA, San Antonio's legacy, and the sport in general. Whatever San Antonio calls it, it sure as hell isn't basketball. It reminds me of watching my son play little league baseball a few years ago. He played for a coach for whom winning was all-consuming. Oh, they won---the team went 16-0--because the coach figured out a way to take advantage of every team's weakness---mediocre pitching and the inability of the catcher to throw out a runner stealing a base. So, he instructed the kids to NEVER swing....make the pitcher throw three strikes (which they could rarely do). Then, after they walked, on the first pitch they'd steal second, on the next pitch they'd steal third, and on the first passed ball they'd steal home. Worked like a charm....problem was, it wasn't BASEBALL. The kids learned absolutely nothing about situational baseball, and those kids are STILL trying to catch up from that year of crap.
Hack-a-Shaq isn't basketball. Yeah, it's a weakness....yeah, it's an achille's heel for Phoenix....yeah, it's effective....but it sure as **** ain't basketball....I thought I hated San Antonio for what Horry did to Nash (and what Bowen did to Nash, etc., etc.) last year....this makes that look like a ****ing storybook ending.
Phoenix will probably lose this series 4-0. I hope Robert Horry, Duncan, Parker and Genobi collectively break their ****ing legs in a car wreck between series. I don't believe I've hated another team more than I hate this team of ****bags.
There. I'm done whining.
I'm going back to my "Chasing History: Eric Byrnes Hit Streak" thread and savor the D-Backs run to a championship this season. xcoffeex xcoffeex xcoffeex xcoffeex
p.s.: Shaq should be embarrassed too....how damned hard would it be to become at LEAST a 70% free throw shooter?

It's a rare day when I root for a team East of the Mississippi. IF (and that's a big IF) the Spurs manage to make it out of the West, I'll be the biggest fan of whoever comes out of the East that you've ever seen. xcoolx xcoolx xcoolx xcoolx xcoolx

So you're pissed because Pop is apparently smarter than D'Antoni, huh
I'm not a big fan of the Spurs, mainly because of the way they react after the refs whistle them for a foul, but let's face it: they own the Suns. Shaq was supposed to get them over the hump by defending Duncan in the playoffs, but instead he's turned out to be a liability. Nash can't defend anybody at this point. Parker's got, what, 30 points through three quarters?
And the official scoring for last year's Horry/Nash run-in is a solid hit, with a flop at the end

Oh, come on, babe. When someone whines, and is honest enough to admit they're whining, I'm gonna mess with 'em, especially if they're plenty pissed already.
I don't like Hack-a-Shaq either, but it's within the rules, and it's the playoffs - you damn sure better take every advantage you can. I can't fault them for it, but damned if I want to watch it in June.

Why would you want to watch it in April? xconfusedx xconfusedx xconfusedx xconfusedx
And, it won't get them by the Lakers.

I hate the hack a Shaq as well. It is not basketball. Yes it may win the Spurs these games but its boring to watch and no wonder why so many people hate the Spurs. There are two teams I hate to watch... the Spurs and Pistons. The Spurs just toped it off this year with the hack a Shaq so early in the game. They need to change the rule so this does not happen next season. I know the simple defense is for Shaq to make the FTs but some people just cant make them no matter what. Dont you think he would have at least improved by now if it was possible. Im sure he doesnt like pissin away points at the line every year if he could help it.

Poor little shaq. He makes millions of dollars, and people actually expect him to improve his game. Those big meanies. xlolx

The Spurs will beat the Suns because they are a better team not because Shaq missed eight free throws. Tony Parker is making the Suns look foolish. The team that I think could give the Spurs trouble is Utah(if they can win this series and the next) but every series is going to be tough. Plus Shaq's D isn't really the problem, it's just their scheme. When D'antoni is saying "my bad" for having Shaq switch to guard Manu or Parker that's bad coaching. As Van Gundy said during the game, you have to take away at least one of the big three, but all three are doing whatever they want. I like the Suns and hope they can make a series out of it, but if they continue to play this way it will be over Sunday.

Why are people acting like Hack-a-Shaq is new? Portland used to hack him in the first quarter. xlolx Hack a Shaq didn't cause the Suns to lose to big first half leads on the road.
How would you change the rule? Basically they are just away from the ball fouls.

Phoenix's biggest problem isn't Shaquille's missed FT's, it is the fact that the Spurs biggest strength is the Sun's biggest weakness; which is execution in the Suns' pick and roll defense and the fact that the Spurs run the pick and roll with Ginobili, Parker, and Duncan better than anybody else in the league.
SA just took Phoenix apart with the PR in the first half last night... I bet they ran it no less than 30 times in the first half and scored on at least 22 of the possessions.

what's embarassing is a professional BB player being paid tens of millions a year who can't make more than half of his free throws

One of Shaq's biggest problems has been playing the pick and roll. He's always had problems defending at the top of the circle.

That was one of the most amazing dismantling of a good basketball team that I've ever seen. I watched with mouth agape many times. Just amazing. Only reason it wasn't a forty point win was that Phoenix played okay on offense.
One of the most fulfilling nights of watching basketball that didn't include my favorite team.

No, I think I said last year that the Suns should've stayed on the bench. But honestly, the Suns have bigger problems that Shaq - he's not the reason why they aren't a serious contender this year.

Agreed.
But I STILL hate the Hack-a-Shaq. It should be outlawed....After 5 fouls away from the ball, give the team two free throws AND the ball back. THAT would stop it. xnodx xnodx xnodx

I don't like H-a-S either, but is fair. Plus it really pisses the Suns off because it keeps them from getting into a rhythm. In a game that thrives on streaks and rhythms, anything to get inside your opponents head is fine with me. The suns are more than welcome to h-a-Duncan or do what they can to get in our heads.

I remember for the Pistons and Bulls, teams would CHASE Ben Wallace down to foul him, every team exploits that one bad shooter, and as everyone else has mentioned it's not a new strat.

At least Tim Duncan is more consistent on the foul line than Shaq can ever be. Big difference. xnodx

It actually started at least in college (if not high school) - its one of the reasons he gave for leaving early (on top of oodles of $$$ of course)...
