Rick Hendrick, the owner of NASCAR's most star studded team could have the chance to round out his four cars with a fourth superstar.

What would other team owners think if Hendrick ended up with the four most popular drivers?

He already has Jeff Gordon in the #24 Dupont Chevy, Jimmie Johnson in the #48 Lowes Chevy and Dale Earnhardt Jr in the #88 Amp Chevy, the team is rounded out by Casey Mears in the #5 Chevy, aside from his legendary name Mears doesn't blend in with the star power of his teammates.

Well now theres reports that Tony Stewart, who has loyalty to Chevrolet and a current driver for Joe Gibbs Racing's #20 Home Depot Toyota Camry (JGR switched from Chevy to Toyota in the off season), wants to be released from Gibbs Racing.

If Stewart indeed becomes available Hendrick will certainly make a strong play for him.

Any team that lands Stewart will likely also add a strong sponsor as Home Depot would be likely to follow Stewart where ever he goes. One rumored home for him is Haas/CNC Racing is mentioned as a possibility as they could offer him ownership stake which is something Stewart has interest in, there also a Chevy team which will be big in where he ends up, they also get their cars from Hendrick Motorsports which means they have decent machines.

But what if Hendrick fields a #5 Home Depot Chevy next year... What will fans think... What will NASCAR think....

I don't think there's anyway Stewart signs with Hendricks. Though HMS should try to sign him (which is how I voted), but I just don't see it happening.

It's common knowledge that Tony wants to get back into a GM car, partly because they are a main sponsor for his sprint car team.

I think the partial ownership will be enough to get Tony in with CNC.....which are Hendrick cars anyway.

I expect to see Tony in either the 66 or the 70 next season.

I agree he probably won't sign, but it's worth a shot. #20 is my boy. xthumbsupx

Would be a HORRENDOUS decision. You can't have Gordon and Stewart on the same team. xsmhx

It would be interesting to see both the Lowes and Home Depot car in the same garage. I think Hendrick will try and who knows if the price is right he may end up there.

I just hope he spins out as his engine blows...in every race.

I heard on the radio this morning that Stewart had a tentative deal with Haas/CNC Racing

EDIT: "deal with" should read "offer from"

I don't think Stewart would go that route, but Hendrick would be a fool not to try if the opportunity presented itself. From a competitive and marketing standpoint it would be pure gold to add Stewart to what he's already got. On the other hand, as a Stewart fan, I'd have to pick another driver because I don't pull for any Hendrick driver, so I hope he stays right where he is.
