Why would any agent, coach or GM allow these idiots to appear and talk in front of the media without some training? If you saw mello's press conference (or even the Memphis or Kansas BB team's press conference), you know what I mean - dumb **** ebonics, staring down at the ground, disingeniousness, ummm, ummmm, ummmm, ummm, ummm, stupid cocky look, visible tatoos and general *****head demeanor. In the case of the college teams, what an embarrassment that must have been for the school and its alumni.
Too bad Mello didn't kill himself.

They really need to quit pampering these athletes when they get a DUI. If you D1B had gotten a DUI that night the officer wouldn't have driven your car to the lot so somebody can come and pick it up for you and then after your booking and you get released give you a ride home.
Melo should be made an example of by the judge so these athletes, or famous people in general, call a cab or have somebody drive their a$$'s to and from the parties or dinner or whatever. It is not like they cannot afford a 20 dollar cab ride.

True.
I think they should be trained to speak somewhat intelligently if they are gonna put them in front of a camera. His agent sucks for not preparing that imbecile.

And I agree, the Nuggets or his agent should have pulled him aside before this and told him exactly what to say. He doesn't sound very smart but I guess one cannot expect much from somebody that didn't go through with school.
Waiting for HIU 93 to chime in about how I am putting the black man down.

You know, 83, I had a guy that worked for me once in the Navy. He was from Arkansas. He told me something one day that changed the way I was as a person. He came into my office, gave me some not-so-good news, and after I (predictably) flew off the handle at him, he responded with (in my best Arkansas redneck accent) "Mr. Martin, you react like frog legs on a lightnin' rod!" I now keep that image in my head, and try to be more reasoned in my approach to things that are negative in nature.
Also, while in the military, there were usually 2-3 people in each department that were always being picked on by the other guys. The ONLY reason we used to continually give crap to the same people was because they were the only ones not smart enough to STOP responding to the crap.
Just a thought. xpeacex

Ya'll really kill me trying to tell people how THEY should respond to something.
I can continually give worse crap to anyone that really want to try me and there would be NO SMACK INVOLVED.

Ummm.... if everyone's done getting their panties in a twist....
Wasn't this about Carmello Anthony's DUI arrest?
Getting back to the original topic.... I'm amazed at how often these athletes get busted for DUI. Often times too, it's the very highly paid guys. The guys who can easily afford a chauffered limo, let alone a cab ride home.

My thoughts exactly. If I can manage to get my drunk ass home without driving and I make less than 10 million a year, I would think that these guys should be able to do the same.

True, but agents are sposed to be smart. If I were Mello's agent, I would have advised him to memorize, practice then verbalize word for word a carefully written statement. I would have told him to wear a hat or detangle those ****in corn rows and wear a nice suit. Sure he would have lost a little street cred, but those knucklehead aint paying his salary.

BINGO! Excellent observation and you took the words right out of my mouth. I mean c'mon, we're talking Carmello Anthony here. Not only could he afford a stretch limo ride home but with all these NBA groupies I'm sure he could have gotten a sober hottie to give him a {pardon the pun} lift.

I think their status among athletes is a significant factor. When you're the star making millions, as opposed to a role player/backup making a few hundred thousand, you're treated far differently. People recognize you, and nobody stops you from doing what you want.
"What's that Mr. (Randy) Johnson? The crying child at the table next to you is bothering you? No problem, we'll throw the little brat and his parents out!" [Just illustrating a point, and using Randy Johnson because the guy is a gigantic jerk].
This has been going on since high school. Even if someone says "no," they don't listen. So what if I'm arrested? I'll post bail. It's straight cash homey! xnodx Thinking through about the consequences has never occurred to them, because they seldom are held accountable. Why would they start to worry about them now?

No, and it is innocent until proven guilty in the States. But we all know he will plead nolo and be given some suspended sentence with probabation and a 500 dollar fine.

You're probably right. That was just my response to the idea of playoff suspension. Certainly the accusation hurts the image of the league. But until he gets his day in court, I don't see NBA sanctions as being deserved.
