Maybe they should be worrying less about jerseys buried in concrete.

Pitching is still gonna be their achilles heel. Wang & Pettite (some days) and then it's a crapshoot in their rotation....

When pitching is the weakness, its even worse when the team isn't hitting...

Things might have been different last night if Girardi bunted with Damon up and runners on first and second, no outs...

I think it's good that they dug it up. :)

It's a good thing that your place in April doesn't mean a thing. xnodx

Or if their starter would've seen the 3rd inning.......

I dunno about that. Hindsight is always 20-20 but not bunting is probably the correct play. With runners on first and second and no outs your run expectancy is 1.51044. With runners on second and third with one out your run expectancy declines to 1.44328.

Not to mention that in 501 PA's in his career with runners on 1st and 2nd he's only grounded into 18 double plays. What's that 3.5% of the time?

he saw the third inning, he just didnt survive it :)

Since were into what ifs....

What if Matsuzaka had control of his pitches the way he did in his previous two starts...

What if Boston continued to get clutch hits after the third inning....

Score woulda been 12-0 instead of 8-5 :p

What if, what if, what if

They lost 2 of 3 on the road to one of the AL's best. I won't lose sleep over it, they'll come around

The offense will improve, and if the pitching stays at about where it is, they'll win plenty of games

LoL. Sorry if that was too math-y. I'm just trying to make the point that bunting usually isn't the correct play unless you only need 1 run and even then there are other determining factors that the manager should probably take into account.

If this was the NL and you had your pitcher up in a similar spot to this one then by all means bunt away. I just happen to think Girardi made the right call there, especially considering Cano's dismal start.

Not to mention, the Yanks ALWAYS start off April slow.
