I don't care who the team is, unless you are at the stadium this seems like a very boring event. (maybe even at the stadium too)

No way! I was at Fenway this afternoon and it was quite an exciting atmosphere! Though the ring ceremony/banner raising in '05 was far more spectacular, the highlight of the afternoon was Bill Buckner throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. Bucker received a well deserved five-minute standing ovation from the Fenway crowd.

And to cap it all off, the Red Sox beat the winless Tigers, 5-0.

Great day, great win.

It seems like Buckner is finally at peace with the Boston fans which is nice to see.

It was nice to see, but I think the media (ESPN in particular) made the whole "Boston hates Buckner" thing a lot worse than it really was. Knowledgeable Red Sox fans never blamed Bucker for '86. For whatever reason, the media made it out that EVERY Boston fan loathes Buckner and that's just not true.

Today wasn't the first time Buckner was cheered by Red Sox fans. In the home opener in '87, he was cheered. When Buckner returned to the Red Sox in 1990, he got a louder ovation than other player on Opening Day. Then in 2006, when the Red Sox honored the '86 team, each player from that team was introduced during a pre-game ceremony. Though Buckner wasn't there, he was cheered loudly when his name was announced

Buckner had a great year in '86 and without him, the Red Sox probably would not have made the playoffs that year, let alone the World Series. Buckner didn't blow it, the bullpen did....in Game 6 AND Game 7.

I never realized before today the guy struck out less then 500 times total for his whole career.

9,397 ABs 453 Ks

Hell Jack Cust is halfway to that total after just 557 career ABs

And he only struck out 25 times in 629 ABs in '86. Talk about one of the better situational hitters in the game.

I could really care less about a ring giving ceremony. much less want to watch one on tv.
