Defensive end Sam Washington had the hit of the day, a blind-side sack that snapped back the head of Hinds CC transfer Terrance Barnes.

Only game I'm xcoffeex about is the Stillman game.
But since it's basically a JSU staff there, don't mind helping out their program.

Grambling is early also.
Guess this is the new order for JSU.
Play the meat of the schedule in the 1st half instead of the end of the year.xnodx
2 open dates.
That's something JSU has not had since the mid '90's.xlolx

Couple questions for you jstate,
1)any word on the opponent for the SWAC/MEAC challenge?
2)how would you feel about playing Rutgers on 9/27? I ask because they are looking for a game on that date and after reviewing all the FCS schedules, you guys seem like the best fit. So I've tried to turn a few posters on their board (some allegedly influential) on to the idea.

#1. I really don't know.xconfusedx
It was supposed to be BCC but that went down the tube's when they decided to side with FAMU in protest over Disney switching sponsership from their classic to this one.
Last I heard, they were looking at Deleware St but don't quote me on that.
All I know is the sponser's of this game paid Northwestern LA., the $50 grand to buyout that game which was already signed so Jackson State is going to Orlando.xrulesx
Who we playing is another question all together. xlolx
#2. Don't matter to us.
Rutger's ain't too much better than USM so as I see it, a game is a game.
Only problem is the travel distance.
Would the payout they give us be worth the expense of travel, lodging, etc.
No need of going all the way to NY for say $300,000, (example), if 3/4 of it will be spent on expenses.
May as well schedule a 12th game for Memorial in Jackson if that's the case and keep all the profit's for that day.xthumbsupx

I hear you about Rutgers, and since I hear they are pretty cheap, they probably wouldn't make it worth your while.

Great to see so many former JSU greats sign up for the football game. xthumbsupx As for our schedule, ESPN must be having a really hard time getting a MEAC school after the Bethune Cookman-FAMU deal. And I can't see Rutgers offering enough money for a trip to NJ. The expenses on that trip would be a bit high.

It took drastic step's but we got the job done.
Once we starting hitting the bottom line, MONEY, the city of Jackson took notice cause all the hotel's and restaurant's had started byotching by that 3rd year.
Homecomming only drew 20,000.
That next week when only 3,000 people showed up and UAPB blew us out, MASON could not ignore it anymore.
Bell was fired before Sunday Church service let out and Culbertson resigned, xsmiley_wix, in December before any hire was made.
Even as a Jag fan I was glad to see that guy leave.
Speculation of Bell's job status heighten after consecutive blow-out losses to Grambling State University (52-21) and Arkansas Pine-Bluff (64-36) where the Tigers gave up a combined 116 points in the two games and 180 points in the previous four
The announced attendance for last Saturday's Arkansas Pine-Bluff game was only 2,831, compared to an attendance of 25,600 at the same game in 2001. The season before Bell was hired in 2002, Jackson State's average attendance at home games was 20,970
"It's been very boring around here," Johnson said. "It is hard when you can't even sell 500 tickets to a home game."
And the rest is history. xlolx

He was fired in the final year of a three year contract and about two games left in the season. What is drastic about that? You make it seem as if he was fired after his first or second year. THE ICON and UAPB games were 7th and 8th games of the season. He was 2-6 at that point. What was drastic about that? xcoffeex

Have your coach cussed ya'll out in the last 3 month's again.
That's what you should be more worried about.
A coach that really don't want to be at a certain place even if ya'll call it the I-CON. xlolx.
NOw seriously Dude.
You got a habit of questioning everything I type here about JSU when you don't know crap.xsmhx
It took three year's.
The drastic came in when WE STOPPED GOING TO GAMES ALL TOGETHER that last year.
Drastic came when business owners, the Jackson City Council member's and other city leader's started putting pressure directly on MASON...........PRESIDENT MASON.
So much pressure, MASON had a 2 page spread in the Clarion Ledger, after 2 1/2 year's of silence, explaining why Bell was still there the Tuesday after homecomming when we ONLY GOT 25,000 and got drug up and down the field.
The following weekend after that explaination, the only people that showed up for the game at Memorial for the UAPB game was the football team and band to watch UAPB score 60 plus point's on us for their 1st win against us.
I know that's a every weekend thing at GRAM, but try and picture Memorial completely empty on gameday. xlolx
Like I said before here.
If I said JSU had 5 bathroom's at Memorial Stadium, you would come in here with a 8 page book about we got 3 bathrooms.xlolx
Stay out of business you have no clue about.
For some reason you got a "complex" about JSU.
Too bad you won't come on the SWACPAGE and make all this known. xlolx
You have been RE-INVITED many times I-CON, xlolx, .........I-CON. xlmaox

Final pieces to Braves coaching staff puzzle complete
by LaToya Shields
December 31, 2007
Alcorn State, MS
—Newly hired Head Coach Ernest Jones has put together the final pieces of his new staff. With a staff that boasts eleven coaches, an equipment manager and two graduate assistants, Coach Jones is very optimistic. Jones’ coaching staff has prior experience in the Big East, Big Ten, C-USA, MAC and several other notable conferences around the country.
Leading the offensive side of the staff will be Dino Dawson (Offensive Coordinator), Michael Armour (Wide Receiver), Terrance Robinson (Running Backs) and Adam Shorter (Offensive Line). Defense will be handled by Earnest Collins, Jr. (Defensive Coordinator/Associate Head Coach), Zachary Shay (Linebackers and Recruiting Coordinator), Jack Phillips (Secondary), Keith Majors (Defensive Line and Special Teams) and Lorenzo Guess (Strength and Conditioning Coach).
Dino Dawson (Wayne State ’91), brings fifteen years of coaching experience to the newly formed staff. His last coaching job was with the University of Illinois as a Wide Receiver Coach during 2005-07. He is an offensive specialist that is very familiar with the type of offense that the Braves will be executing.
Michael Armour (Eastern Michigan ’96), who has previously coached in the Southwestern Athletic Conference at rival schools, UAPB and Alabama A&M comes to Alcorn from Lane College. He will bring a wealth of knowledge to the wide receiver corp as he has a sharp offensive mind.
Terrance Robinson (Central Michigan ’07), is entering his first year of coaching. He has won Mid-American Conference Titles as a player and a coach. While at Central Michigan, he played under Coach Jones.
Earnest Collins, Jr. (Northern Colorado ’96) will head the defensive side. Collins is fresh off the Central Florida’s 10-3 loss in the Liberty Bowl against Mississippi State. He brings eleven years of experience to the Braves defense. He has won two Division II national championships (’98 and ‘99).
Something that is special about this new coaching staff is that minorities have become a part of this staff.
Adam Shorter (Cincinnati ’04) brings experience from both sides of the ball. Shorter was a four year letter winner at the University of Cincinnati where he played every position associated with the offensive line. He also received the John Pease Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award at the University of Cincinnati.
Zachary Shay (Iowa ’98) joins the staff with eight years of experience with two of those years being on the high school level. His intense, go-getter attitude will be one that will be welcomed to recruit some of the best athletes to the Academic Resort. As a player and a coach, Shay has been a participant in five bowl games.
Jack Phillips will be the secondary coach. Phillips is a product of Alcorn State where he lettered in football.
Keith Majors (Northwestern University ’88) is an eleven year collegiate veteran. He is no stranger to the state of Mississippi, having worked at Millsaps College from June 2004 to November 2005. While at Highland Community College, Majors served as the head coach.
Lorenzo Guess (Michigan State ’02) joins the Alcorn State Football Staff as the Strength and Conditioning Coach. He has two years coaching experience on both sides of the ball. As an athlete at Michigan State, he lettered in both basketball and football. Guess was a part of the Citrus Bowl and the Silicon Valley Bowl as well as two Big Ten titles and a Final Four Appearance (basketball).
All of the coaches will be great assets to the type of football that Alcorn State will be playing. There are three (3) goals that Jones has committed to doing, they are (1) build the program, (2) mold young men into men of character and integrity and (3) win football games

Alcorn will probably squeeze out a few wins like they have been doing the last few years.

By disaster you mean to himself. I have seen him in highschool, thought he was very good. Do you have someone in the wings better?
Don't know what the problem was with Trae.
May have had a messed up shoulder all along.
But everytime he came into a game, AND I MEAN EVERTIME, 1 of three thing's was going to happen:
Fumble, Sack, of an INT.
Comegy brought in a Freshman QB from Florida last year who was red shirted, and recruited 2 highschool QB's and 2 JR. College QB's this year.
Trae gonna have to work like heck for a starting position cause he has not shown nothing yet.

Thank you I will be pulling for you all from afar. I am one of those that hated to see Comegy leave "The Skee", and felt as if he was given too much flack over there. I can see things have tapperd off and are just as they should be. As for Trae, he will be fine. He may need to change positions. He is a real athlete.

I agree with the position change. I have followed Trae since his arrival at Mississippi State. I always felt he had talent but something is missing. Sometimes his head just doesn't seem to be in the game. I can't see him starting at QB over the players we have coming in this season. We are appear to be pretty deep at QB.

Why are you getting hostile? Somethings are just common sense. If things were so drastic and all of this pressure was put on Mason why not fire him Bell before the 3rd year of his contract, instead of 8 or 9 games into the season of the final year of his contract? What was doing that so late in the season going to do but help the gate at the CCC. Wasn't attendance down in year two? Weren't business owners and city leaders upset in year two? You are saying it took three years for the Jackson folk to get upset and do what? You didn't but out the remaining year of his contract. I don't have to be in Jackson or from Jackson to know what goes on in Jackson.
Firing a losing coach in the final year of his contract with about two games left in the season is a NOT DRASTIC MOVE.
You don't have to lie to kick it.
xthumbsupx Good luck with the Spring game.

Yes McKenna. The other one is Terrance Barnes from Hinds CC in Jackson. But we also have two freshmen QBs, another one who has been running the scout team, and another JC QB/ATH coming in.

You prove time and time again that you know as much about Jackson State as I know about Grand Valley State. xlolx Bell would have still been coaching Jackson State if fans, city leaders, and alumni didn't run him and Culberson out of town. Culberson wasn't even on the chopping block until the boycott. But you go ahead and keep telling me how it went down. xrolleyesx

Our president had no choice but to step in after the boycott when he realized how important Jackson State football is to the city, our alumni, and the businesses in the community. Culberson was brought down by the heat from the alumni, business owners, and the press, not Mason. But anyway carry on... xcoffeex

He stepped in two years and nine games into a three year contract xconfusedx . Way to go Mason xlolx . If you like it, I love it. Just stop going around telling people it was political, fan and economic pressure that got Bell and Culbertson fired. People with common sense know better.xthumbsupx

THE BELL FIRING,
Let's start with this one.
He was fired in the final year of a three year contract and about two games left in the season. What is drastic about that? You make it seem as if he was fired after his first or second year. THE ICON and UAPB games were 7th and 8th games of the season. He was 2-6 at that point. What was drastic about that?
*Was Bell fired in the 3rd year of his three year contract? Yes
*Was Bell fired with about 2 or 3 games left in the season? Yes
*Was it a drastic move to fire a a losing coach with the previous statements above? No
Drastic
Pronunciation:
