View Full Version : Fight Song Database

I need everyone's help. I had a silly idea when I was trying to find the fight songs for a bunch of SoCon teams. And I suddenly realized how hard it is to find fight songs for anyone looking to find fight songs.

So I thought, maybe it would be nice to have a fight song database. So I spent the next bit trying to find fight songs for all the FCS teams, freely available on the school's websites (not material copyrighted and for sale).

So, here's the list of schools I'm missing and thought, what better place to ask than on AGS. Some may not have bands or fight songs or both. So, can anyone offer any help?

I was going to say...many schools don't have bands or fight songs.

Do you have a website for all these fight songs? Fightmusic.com is a good one, but it only has FBS and Ivy fight songs, so a site for all D-I schools would be pretty cool.

That's where i got the idea. Once I have the core of all the fight songs set. Then I am going to set up a DB for it and let everyone know.

Fight Music is what lead me to do this in the first place.

Right now, for all the schools not listed, I have found copies of the band playing the fight song either from the school's website, band's website or athletic's web site of the various schools.

Here's a Youtube of Albany's pep band playing 'Purple and Gold'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RT8QHlmZHUU

and an mp3 of an a capella vocal group
http://www.albany.edu/main/features/2003/09-03/earthtones/fightsong.mp3

I have an mp3 file of the pep band but I don't know how to load it to a web site, and you'll have to send me your email address so I can attach it - I don't think you can attach a file to a pm

Do you want the lyrics, too?

Here's Towson's fight song...
http://wwwnew.towson.edu/bands/Audio/TU%20Fight%20Song.mp3

If you have ever heard Arizona's Bear Down, its the same thing with different words. Phil Albert, the Towson coach at the time, had played QB at Arizona and decided that we needed a fight song in the late 60's early 70's, so he wrote new lyrics to his old fight song.

So, if someone has a list of HBCU Fight Song names, that might help. To be honest, I have trouble telling what some of their songs area. Like Let's Go Wildcats, I never thought that would be used as an alternate fight song.

Well, when I was in the marching band at Nicholls State, we made a recording for the athletics website and also learned the words (which, at the time, no one knew). There used to be a link to the recording on the old site, but it stopped working long before they updated the site. I MAY have a copy of it on an older computer, but I'll have to dig through some files.

Anyway, here are the horrible lyrics to the Nicholls State fight song:
Go! Colonels, Go!
We are behind you all the way.
Fight! Colonels, Fight!
We're on the top and there we'll stay.
Fight! Fight! Fight!

Win! Colonels, Win!
We've got to win this game today.
Big Red fight for vict'ry,
'Cause we're behind you all the way!

Portland State - tune of Men of Ohio, no band?
Wofford - tune of Notre Dame's fight song, no band!
Eastern Illinois - told me no

I'm also getting together a list of the dishonorable mention schools like Saint Mary's, Boise State, Akron, WKU, Marshall and any other team that used to play in our division and either disbanded or moved "up" ....

That should really get those old I-A folks a good laugh. Finally a site that covers everyone BUT them!

I have recently picked up Alcorn State's Fight Song (Basically it is the Tomahawk Chop the FSU uses) but they add their own flair. I am now down to a very few as well.

I have a version of "Men of Ohio" but they are long. You have any ideas on how short I need to go?
