Amid Financial crisis, Georgia Southern Drops Football

Fewer institutions have felt the pain of America's recession as much as Georgia Southern has. GSU president Bruce Grube announced Tuesday that due to increasing credit crunch within the state of Georgia and the nation, the school is unable to pay its large debt incurred from its mammoth expansions in the 1980s and 1990s. The crisis has forced Georgia Southern to hike tuition for the Fall 2008 semester and has also announced that it will be dropping it's storied football program. "GSU's football program has provided our institution with exciting games and fame across the state" said Grube. "but in times of budget cuts, the lowest-priority expenditures must be expunged first."
