Twenty teams were present as conditions were cold (37 degrees) with a cross wind at the outdoor facility with field turf.

» WR Dexter Jackson (5-9¼, 179): Had a 30½-inch veritcal jump, 4.15 short shuttle, 6.96 cone drill, 11 reps in the bench press, ran position drills and kept his number from the combine.

» DB Corey Lynch (6-0 3/8, 202): Ran the 40 in 4.58 and 4.60, had a 9-foot, 3-inch long jump, 3.99 short shuttle (the first under four seconds this spring), 6.71 cone drill, ran position drills and did 13 reps on the bench press. He was very good.

The former Mountaineers that participated in the event included offensive linemen Kerry Brown and Larry Blackwood, wide receivers Dexter Jackson and Hans Batichon, defensive backs Corey Lynch, Jerome Touchstone and Justin Woazeah, running back Kevin Richardson, quarterback Trey Elder and place kicker Julian Rauch. They were joined by a handful of prospects from other area schools, including Gardner-Webb and Chowan.

I suppose all those guys besides Dex,Lynch, and Brown have a shot to try to make camps but I think its usual to have most seniors who may want to pursue any level of professional football to workout.
Good to see Brian Johnston of Gardner Webb got to workout in front of a good amount of scouts.

Dex mostly sat on his combine numbers but the highlight IMO was Lynch with the fastest short shuttle of any players this year, a solid 40 time, and a faster cone drill than Dexter Jackson. I want to know hwy they did it outside when they have the indoor facility which is perfect conditions to increase the participants numbers.

Maybe the scouts wanted to see them in a less-than-ideal environment. xeyebrowx

Rauch was 9/10 on field goals and said it was a very windy day, which hurt him on his kickoffs.

IMO Justin Woazeah there had some great numbers, 22 reps is great for a corner with a solid 4.5 40.
KRich was faster than I expected also

Wouldn't you agree that the numbers are inflated just a tad bit in Boone? Those guys are great athletes, but your stadium is at 3500 feet and they are running on turf.

it's 3333 feet and if anything the elevation would hurt a guys numbers, and like half the NFL stadiums are turf these days anyway.

the thinner air makes it harder to breath, could be an advantage to app players in that they are used to getting less air and at lower elevations breathing becomes that much easier. though you also get used to the dryness of the air up here which hurts off the mountain in the humidity

Thats why our track and cross country teams do as well as they do.

Bingo. I'm not saying the times aren't fast, but it's worth noting that the times might be different if they were tested in Birmingham.

After four years playing in Boone, I doubt they are having that much trouble adjusting to the mountain air :)

It was extremely cold with a nasty cross-wind. I am sure the times would have been better in 70 degree weather.

I would put good money on there times being faster in B'ham. Being acclimatized to high elevation makes a huge difference. I went back packing in the Andes a couple years ago at 11,000 to 14,000 feet and thin air was kicking my ass until the last 2 days when I was finally used to it. then when I went back to Boone I felt like a track star for about a week.
