Through the semifinals, Iowa has blown the NCAA Wrestling Tournament wide open with almost 100 points with the finals and placement consolations still to be wrestled tomorrow on Saturday. Meanwhile, there is a wild scramble for second place with only about 6 points separating 5 teams.
Lehigh's fortunes this year were non-existant as all five our our qualifiers were eliminated by this afternoon. Too many close losses by 1 and 2 points. The kids have to learn to wrestle to win as opposed to wrestling not to lose. Better days ahead.

And he just got screwed by a fake injury by Ohio State's Jaggers, what a bunch of bull crap!!!! Had a great reversal going and possible back points. Disgusting.

In a manner of speaking....He basically brought in half the Virginia Tech team to right the Iowa ship that was listing. However, I will say his boys were ready and peaking at the right moment. Perry was a very deserving OW this year. Was good to see the Okie State Cowboys get knocked down a few notches, and for Ohio State to have a resurgence. They had dropped off the radar few years back, but had a solid second place finish this year.

I actually taped this - watched it last night. Very entertaining. PO'd that the matches ran late, missed the Heavyweight final.
Big Ten dominated - with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th and 9th.

Nice to see the state of Iowa fairing well.
Iowa, Iowa State, and UNI all in the top twenty.
Any other state accomplish three teams in the top 20?

I don't know but...
The state of Iowa is home to 20 individuals who qualified for the NCAA Division I wrestling tournament. That was the fifth-highest state - behind Pennsylvania (46), Ohio (31), New Jersey (29) and California (27).
Seven of those 20 wrestlers earned all-America honors. That makes Iowa the fourth-most decorated state in all-Americans in the 2008 tourney. Ohio had nine, and Michigan and Pennsylvania each had eight. Two of Michigan's all-Americans are at Iowa schools - Davison's Brent Metcalf at 149 for Iowa and Davison's Jon Reader at 165 for Iowa State.

Not bad for a rural state with a population significantly less than the 4 ahead of it.

When I was in the Army, the only guy whop could beat me was a guy from Iowa. I meet him in our Judo class. This guy was small fast and quick. However, I did beat him once, only on points.

I agree that was BS. The kids was wailing like he was about to die then jogged off the mat, it felt like a freakin world cup soccer match.

What poll has UNI in the top 20? I coulnt find find it. At anytime there are 3-6 PA schools ranked in the top 25. Penn State, Penn, Pitt, Lehigh, and Edinboro are ranked often and Bloom, Lock Haven and Clarion are also D-I programs that make it on ocassion.

Pennsylvania had Penn State (#3) and Pittsburgh (#18), with Edinboro just missing at #21, being edged by Northern Iowa.
Tremendous parity this year, despite Iowa's impressive win. The gaps between the wrestlers was quite narrow, and roughly only 20 points separated teams from #2 through #10. Minnesota was probably the biggest disappointment as they were preseason and pretournament favorites, but finished 10th.

Very late on the discussion, but you didn't miss much. A lot of stalling, and bleeding.
