PARIS -- All of cycling's ProTour teams, with the exception of Astana and defending champion Alberto Contador of Spain, were invited to compete in this year's Tour de France by tour organizers on Thursday.
Two American teams, Slipstream and High Road, were invited to the race. It is the first time more than one U.S. team has been invited to the world's most prestigious cycling race.
Astana has been barred from entering by Tour organizers Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) because of its implication in doping scandals over the last two years.
