I will post the other Ivies' progress as well:

Leading the pack are 2 teams, both with .500 records: Penn and Brown.

In the Gehrig division, Princeton is 7-8, Cornell is 5-7, and Columbia is 6-12.
In the Rolfe division, Dartmouth is 4-7, Yale is 6-12, and Harvard is 1-9. xnonono2x

We (Harvard) got swept by UC Riverside last time.

For my other favorite team, Cal State Fullerton, we swept UNLV, and are now 11-8.

So far they have played Alabama, Washington, Missouri, San Diego, San Diego State, Fresno State, UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara and UCLA.

Next week starts with 2 games at Fresno State.
After that they start the Big West cinference schedule wich is one of the toughtest Baseball coferences in the country.

Brown split with Penn in Philly today, we are now 7-11 (1-3 Ivy).

By just looking at the standings, the Ivy League is very weak this year. Dartmouth has the best overall record, and they're just 8-7.

The rest of the Ivy...

Columbia 7-15
Penn 6-8-1
Cornell 6-8
Princeton 8-11
Yale 8-15-1
Harvard 1-14
Brown 7-11

Usually there's one or two teams that are clearly better than the rest. Brown was that team last year. This year every team is either bad or really bad. The Ivy Champion could very well have a losing record.

At least in softball the Ivy is halfway decent....

The University of San Diego baseball team has reentered the top-10 this week as in the latest Collegiate Baseball top-30 poll the Toreros have jumped three spots to No. 9. Presbyterian baseball is performing light years ahead of my expectations for this season. Because we got smoked by D-II teams throughout the '07 campaign, I didn't expect us to win a game during this first go-round in D-I. All that being said, we're 12-32 on the season. We've had a ton of close-calls, including taking South Carolina and Tennessee to extra innings only to lose by one run each time. We also took Virginia Tech to ten innings today, too.

On the flip side, the record shows that we have a LOOOOOONG way to go before we'll be competitive at this level. Baseball hasn't been one of our marquis sports for years and years, so we're working on program building in addition to playing in D-I. Construction on a beautiful new stadium will be beginning shortly, and I've heard that the recruiting class for the '08-'09 season is possibly the best Coach Pollock has ever pulled in. Sorry for the wordiness; I'm always jacked up about PC sports, especially now that we play with the big boys in Division I. xpeacex

Fullerton won over San Diego State 4-3 in a pitcher's duel. Stephen Strasburg entered the game an award-winner but he didn't look like one in the game. Also the Aztecs stranded runners, leaving the bases loaded or leaving at least one on base several times. Jeff Kaplan won this duel although he gave up only 1 run.

Western Carolina finished the regular season at 28-26, 14-13 in the SoCon, tied for 6th with Appalachian State.

Bobby Moranda was left a WEALTH of talent by Todd Raleigh and this was the best he could do with it? OUCH. Baseball has always been WCU's main staple as it pertains to men's sports and this coach better NOT muck it up. xmadx xmadx

Todd Raleigh didn't fare too much better at Tennessee, going 26-29 in his 1st year, but keep your eye on the VOLS baseball program. Raleigh is a winner and I wish he'd never left Cullowhee.

Kaplan now has beaten all 8 Big West opponents, has beaten 3 Clemens Award semifinalists (Strasburg, Liebel, Gorgen) and has won 8 consecutive decisions. Congrats on getting back to the Regionals, though with Sam playing all its games at 7 p.m. in its own park, not surprised to see Kats back in. Johnson back in College Station ... that would be tough that is most logical place to go (maybe Rice).

Nice job by us as No. 7 seed to get to Saturday as well. Errors killed us early against Lamar and we couldn't get timely hits off Sisk.

Also sucks in that our guy (Brandon Street) gets SLC record 13 hits in the tournament with three home runs and IS NOT ON THE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM! xnonox xnonox xnonox

Texas Southern will get to go to Rice. Makes the most sense, though last year, some things didn't make much sense and SHSU ended up in Mississippi.

It was incredible that SLU got as far as they did. It was very impressive and we all enjoyed in Huntsville the victory over the Bobcats!

Fullerton held a 6-5 lead going into the eighth... but...

Dovel loaded the bases with one out. After he was relieved by Jorgenson, he walked one for an RBI and another doubled for 2 RBI's.

Then...

In the 9th inning, with 1 out also, we had runners on 2nd and 3rd. But Shaw (who got the save) struck out Clark and had Wilson ground out, wasting the opportunity to let the game go into extra innings.

Final score: 8-6 Dirtbags.

Rubber match tomorrow at 1 pm. Arbiso will start against Worley.

Long Beach State gets the autobid!

We lost 3-12 on...

Worley's complete game (8 hits)
Arbiso lasting only 2 2/3, giving up 6 runs on 6 hits (mostly in the third inning, when the Dirtbags sent 11 to the batter's box)
Many Dirtbags getting hits

Hopefully, neither one of us will get a national seed so that we couldn't face each other in the Super Regional...
