Houston Baptist University filed a lawsuit against the NCAA on Friday, claiming the agency violated its constitution by adding four years to the school's transition period to full membership.
The school applied to become a provisional NCAA member in March 2007. It had been affiliated with the NAIA since 1991.
Houston Baptist said the NCAA accepted the application and the school expected to gain full NCAA membership in three years. But according to the lawsuit filed in state district court in Houston, the NCAA informed the school in April 2007 that it would have to wait seven years, not three.
