No Southland participant?
One would think you'd include defending champ McNeese or maybe throw in a SHSU team that will have a senior Rhett Bomar based on previous seniors (Long, McCown)...

I agree with Citdog (can't believe I said that). I think GSU will be kept out of the playoffs at least one more year.
I do think the SoCon will get three teams in (how can they continue to shaft the conference?). My gut says it could likely be App. and some combination of Furman/Elon/Wofford/The Citadel.
I hope we don't have a road game at Eastern Washington, though. I'm a bit tired of playoff road games across the country. I would like to see App in the second round though. They've got payback coming :)

I'd think Dayton would get a tougher first-round matchup than Howard, unless you think it's a last-gasp effort by the Old Guard to get a win for the MEAC - even though you predict a Dayton win.

1st of all, its not the "CAASportsZone". You're also being told by posters of several teams your picks are idiotic. You're the genius who picked JMU to go 6-5 and UMass to sweep JMU, UR, and UD then lose to UNH. That did go into my "Idiot Picks And Predictions" folder. Like to see Lehigh's name on the list although i don't know how likely that is. Lehigh should be very good on defense next year and the league schedule is favorable with Colgate and Fordham at home. Lafayette is away but in reality it's a neutral site same when it's at Goodman. The question will be who's going to step up at QB. If someone does i think they might be the most "talented" team in the league. Another thing is if Coen goes 5-6 6-5 again he should be shown the door IMO.

I feel like James Madison and Villanova are better bets than Delaware, though I can't argue with your other three CAA selections. As mentioned above, if EWU doesn't win the auto, they're not going. If Montana beats EWU this year, they're in big trouble, as that will be 3 losses and a DII school. This might be a year that the Southland gets two, or the OVC gets two again, and doesn't deserve it, again. There were a lot of teams close in the MEAC last year who might deserve a look, too. If I remember correctly, a 7-4 SC. ST team with two losses to FBS teams could surely improve.

I don't begrudge the CAA getting the five bids. ASU was very fortunate to get out of the first round against one of them. Very fortunate. To me the team with the best argument for an at large other than one of the four CAA at large selections was another CAA team. To me one could argue that Villanova belonged in instead of New Hampshire.

I think that the PL is entirely up for grabs this year. Who would have thought Fordham would have come on so strong last year? Other than G'town and Bucknell, I think every other team in the league will be in the mix until the end.
There ya go. More questions in this bunch than Alex Trebek has seen in his entire career.
BUCKNELL - The only PL team to beat League champion Fordham. Do ya think?...Naa. Did they get bigger? Not enough cheeseburgers in North America to make that happen.
COLGATE - Whither Jordan Scott? Without him team does not appear capable of rising above the pack, but if some talented people rise to the challenge, could have more ups than downs.
FORDHAM - Defending champs with no devastating graduation losses. Gotta be the favorites. Many still believe however, that there are two and maybe three teams with better talent up and down the roster. How will they do with that target on their backs?
GEORGETOWN - Rumored superior recruiting class may make some of the games closer, particularly in the 2nd half of the season, but that seems to be the best one can expect. Look for one real upset.
HOLY CROSS - Dominic Randolph! That's it, Dominic Randolph. The talent surrounding him seems to be less with each passing year and he hasn't done it yet. Will have their moments, but...
LAFAYETTE - Solid "D." Offensive line needs to come together sooner rather than later, and running game needs to ratchet things up a notch or two. Kicking game needs to rise above what appears to be mediocre.
LEHIGH - Another solid "D." Even if a QB is found, he will be 1st year and will be surrounded by some Swiss cheese. Looking good on special teams.

3 Socon teams make the playoffs. GSU, Wofford and Appy
GSUxlolx xlolx xlolx
They are at least 2-3 years from the playoffs. I'll go with Wofford, APP, and Elon.

I don't know about 2-3 years but I don't think we are playoff-bound. WE will have a lot of kids seeing significant time so we will regress, somewhat. Who knows, maybe they will grow up sooner than I expect and the team will gell quicker. Maybe, just maybe, we make it.
Then Citdog can kiss that tyrant's ass. :D

This thread is about what is expected. Absolutely no love for Wofford.
That is okay. We will be predicted to finish at about 4 in the SoCon and like the last few years will sneak up on people and bit them in their arses.
We will make the playoffs, guaranteed! If we don;t I'll bow down to CitDog

Don't worry about bowing down the Citdog, drpnut. Even if we don't make the playoffs, we'll still have made it 10 in a row over the Bellhops.
Wofford's status as a playoff team will be dependent on their performance early. I think they'll be playoff calibre by the end of the season, but they'll be young, so if they stub their toe early, they may end up on the wrong side of the bubble. Either way, I expect 2009 and 2010 to be very good.

ninety-sux?? xmadx I guess you have never heard the phrase of "there is no I in the word team." I believe we have a chance at the playoffs, but we might need a year to let Blanchard and Andre get the offense working well enough for a playoff run.

No way! D1B's already decided who's going to win this season so we might as well argue about the playoffs like it makes a difference. xlolx

I'm not liking all of the ASU love on this thread....pretty soon people will start getting even bigger heads. Ya'll want that? xoopsx xpeacex :D
We have a strong team coming back but thinking we'll win #4, let alone the playoffs, is possibly setting us up for a letdown. LSU & JMU on the road, plus an entertaining SoCon. Make the longest trips of the SoCon in back-to-back weeks (Samford then GSU). Follow that up with Furman and Wofford coming to Boone in the following weeks. That 3 week stretch could make or break the season. Out of those 5 games, if we come away with only 2 losses, I will be impressed.

I might have to suggest that name change be official. Might remedy the fact that no commentators can pronounce Appalachian correctly.xsmiley_wix

I think that the PL is entirely up for grabs this year. Who would have thought Fordham would have come on so strong last year? Other than G'town and Bucknell, I think every other team in the league will be in the mix until the end.
Agreed. To quote Sylvester Stallone aka 'Rocky' to Talia Shire..."...you know everyone's got gaps.." So goes the Top 5 of the PL..If Lehigh fills it's QB 'gap' we SHOULD be a force. Good experience coming back on D, and enough talent on offense, so long as the man 'at the controls' can keep the train on the tracks...

Yes, the citadel will be national champs in 2008!!! they definitely have the best coaches, FANS, and players in the country. i just don't understand how the citadel continues to be overlooked by the selection commitee year after year. old citdog, you guys are just being overlooked-maybe it's the officiating or the scorekeeper keeps losing track of all of those td's. i don't know! but i do know the citadel has the best chance of being nc's in 2008.

WE DO HAVE THE BEST COACH. PLAYERS... WE DO MORE WITH LESS THAN ANYONE ELSE IN THE COUNTRY. FANS... WITH 2000 CADETS AND 15K LIVING ALUMNI WE OUTDRAW SCHOOLS WHO HAVE MORE STUDENTS IN THEIR SMALLEST MAJOR THAN WE HAVE IN THE ENTIRE SOUTH CAROLINA CORPS OF CADETS.
THE BEST CHANCE? NOT BY FAR... BUT NOW ONE CANNOT HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE TEAMS THAT ARE CAPABLE OF WINNING THE SOUTHERN CONFERENCE WITHOUT MENTIONING THE CITADEL BULLDOGS.
