So what would be the big deal with letting spring NCAA sports play in the summer time?
You could move winter sports back to starting after the Xmas break and ending in late April, then spring sports starting in early May and going through July/early Aug.
What would be so bad with that?
Football starts in summer (fall camp in early Aug).
Why can't the spring sports play through summer so long as the players passed all their classes (or whatever arbitrary academic criterion you wanted to assign) in the spring semester.

Keep in mind that not all college athletes (especially in the lower divisions) are on scholarship. Many of them need to work full time during the summer to pay their way through school.

And some university athletic staff that work non-stop throughout the year would like their month off that is hard enough to get!

Any baseball, softball, or track and field athletes that qualify for post season competition, stay an extra month after school is out.
They do particiate in the summer.

And what about Seniors who have graduated and are supposed to start their new jobs during the summer.

Limit it to DI or DI/DII, then.

Did you honestly just complain about not getting a month off from working?!
Do you know how many people in country work year round with 10 paid vacation days a year?

They're going to lose their job because they're starting in Aug instead of May?
Please.
Any company that hires athletes know what a great deal they're getting because being part of a team, etc. is such a great thing for work.
I'm sure they won't mind.

OK so what sports are you going to propose being played in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida during the summer?

I say the NCAA should add women's beach volleyball as a summer sport.

I agree! Women's Final Four could be here in Tampa. xthumbsupx

Summer is for the beach! And the pool! And vacations! Not for silly college sports.

NCAA spring sports.
It would give northern schools a legitimate chance to be competitive.
If you were trying to imply something about heat, have the games at night.
A 7pm baseball game under the lights in perfect 75 degree weather, nothing better.

I have to imagine most DI and DII athletes (especially on the men's side) of the spring sports are not on scholarship. D-I Fully funded track programs only get 12.6 full scholarships, tennis - 4.5, lacrosse - 12.6, golf - 4.5, and baseball - 11.7 on the men's side. Women's get more but none cover all or nearly all of the athletes.

Being part of a team is great for work but there are many other things. For my first job out of college, I needed to start in the middle of June. If I couldn't, I would not have gotten that job. Bigger companies may be able to allow later starts but not all and especially smaller companies. Also, summer internships are important for getting some jobs out of school. Don't hurt these college students chances.
Finally, how about letting some of the spring athletes have a life. The summer is the only time that many of these athletes get to go on vacation and have an extended time to see their families. That is pretty important too.

Not limited to lower divisions. Baseball, track, golf, tennis rosters are full of partial or non-scholly players.

So very true. Unfortunately, night games in late July and August in Baltimore are 95^ and 98% humidity. I can't imagine going any further South.
You want 75^ under the lgihts you have to go out May-early June, or else wait until late September-October.

These are all good points.
My response is simple: go play intermurals, brother!
Seriously though, if you can't commit to the work it takes to be a part of the team, that's fine. Just don't be on the team.
There's hardly a requirement that you have to belong to a NCAA team in order to be allowed to play a sport.
