Tune in to ESPN and ESPNHD on March 16th and March 17th at 9PM for a two-part documentary entitled Black Magic. It is a film that addresses the history of HBCU basketball. I am sure you will see some names and faces you have heard of and rooted for (or against). I have seen portions of it from a pre-screening and I can tell you it is extremely enertaining and informative.

"Black Jesus", Earl "The Pearl" Monroe (Winston Salem State) is a co-creator and executive producer of the film. You will most definitely be educated by this film. Enjoy.

Sounds like a good video! I did not know Earl "The Pearl" went to Winston-Salem State, hopefully I learn some more information about HBCU basketball. Thanks for the recommendation!

The portion on ex-Southern coach Ben Jobe, brought tears to my eyes. As a young kid it always amazed me to see 100 plus points on the scoreboard every night. One of my favorite memories was watching ACC Champ Georgia Tech totally winded after playing the Jags.

So there will be something college basketball related on ESPN WORTH WATCHING on 3/16? Anything but their never-ending "this team got shafted and that team doesn't deserve to be in the tournament" coverage. I'll just have to be sure to time my turning on the TV to avoid the last Dickie V "Bay-Bee" comment prior to the REAL show.

Thanks for the heads up 93.

Excellent documentary. Very well done. It's also cool to see and hear stories 1. about people you know 2. that the old heads used to relate to you as a young man. This was AWESOME!!!!

It also brought tears to my eyes. Bobby Phills and his wife Kendall grew up in the same neighborhood as me. Bobby actually tore my goal down slamming. Me and his younger brother were friends.

Loved the piece on John Chaney. What he did for 100's of young men is incredible. It deffinately shows all those early practices were a small price to pay for an opportunity that Chaney was giving them.

What a great show. I enjoyed both parts. I DVR'd it so I can watch it again. Brought back alot of memories, seeing Avery Johnson and Bobby Phills at Ben Jobe basketball camps as a kid.
