The legendary Myron Cope passed away today. Anyone who has heard him call a Steelers game knows how great and unique he was. He has the quintessential Pittsburgh accent, and he invented the terrible towel. It is a sad day in Steel Town.

Anyone who lives in Pennsylvania and is not a Steelers fan thought he was a knucklehead who shouldn't be on the radio. Then you find out that he is actually brilliant and had a long career as a writer with Sports Illustrated. About five years ago, I saw an hour-long interview with Myron on PCN (which is like Pennsylvania's C-SPAN) and my eyes were opened and I loved the man ever since.

May he RIP.

He should be buried with a Terrible Towel.

Wow, what a bummer. Being a Burgh native, I have always been an MC fan. He was truly a Burgher, and he will be greatly missed. Sad day indeed. RIP Myron. I'll wave my TT one more time just for you!

For those of you in Pa. (who have cable, not satellite), I suspect PCN will probably rerun that PCN Profile interview with Myron in the next week or two. When I lived there, the program was on Sunday nights and then rerun during the following week at various weekday hours. It's worth watching. You 'Burghers will probably have tears in your eyes, and rightly so.

It wasn't PCN Profiles. It was PA Books. Double Yoi!

I used to listen to Myron while traversing the PA Turnpike westward on fall Sundays. A voice you could never forget.

I remember many times WFAN's Joe Benigno would play audio highlights of NFL games on Sunday nights, and whenever he'd play a Steelers highlight he would say, "The INCOMPARABLE Myron Cope ..." and you always pictured Joe rolling his eyes when he said it.

Incomparable indeed.

Being an Eagles fan I never heard Myron before I arrived at college and met a few hardcore steeler fans from western Pa who would listen to him on the radio. The first time I heard him I was literally in shock-- he sounds like a crazy old man. It wasnt long however before I actually looked forward hearing him--observant and funny as hell--not to metion a true homer

A great broadcaster and truly a loss for Steeler Nation.
