I don't think it will happen but the Rays are interested (http://www.sptimes.com/2008/02/25/Rays/Rays_ponder_Bonds_pur.shtml) (kind of) in Barry Bonds. It would put butts in the seats. xlolx

Tony Larusa went to the new mgt team in st lou begging for them to bring in bonds. He was quickly dismissed. Bonds would fit right in there with all the other substance abuse and PED alligations there recently.

I think Bonds in Tampa (St. Pete) would be great if nothing else folks would come out to heckle him.

Why not put him on the roster. He'll fill seats and become a tourist attraction even if he don't play much xconfusedx

I understand why Tony wanted him, but if he went to the Cards he would actually have to play the field xeekx. Barry probably wants to win a ring, but it's not his sole motivation he has stated he wouldn't mind trying to break the all time Home-run record of that Japanese fella.

I doubt it will happen but this could help the Rays with their pursuit of a new stadium.

Oh sure, the fans will come for a little while......then they'll realize that they're still the Raysxnodx

I can't imagine why any team would be interested in Barry Bonds. xnodx

That's true, but with them anything is good.

I look at it as a desperation publicity stunt. He is a specticle if nothing else and the distractions that he would bring won't exactly derail the Rays from a championship run. I think Bonds would play for the Rays, he is just trying to pad his number because he knows that A-Rod is on pace to break it and that no one from this point forward will be able to keep up their production level into their 40's like he has b/c they will not have the benefit of HGH and such. I think he will swing for the fences at every AB regardless of the situation and he will justify it by putting people in the seats. He may also feel like he has something to prove by being productive after not being on Steroids but who knows. Personally I hope no one signs him, but I guess it is inevitable.
He could also be playing just to pad his pocket to pay for his upcomming legal expenses.

It's all speculation at this point, but for a team like the Rays, Bonds' distractions are child's play compared to Elijah Dukes.
