The Patriots did not place the franchise tag on him by yesterdays deadline which is leading to speculation that he and the Pats have agreed to a new contract.
If there is a deal, it cant be announced until February 12.

There was something on NFLN saying that he wasn't a member for a year so they couldn't put the tag on him. I don't know if they are allowed to tag him in april when a year has passed? Tag deadline was Feb 21. not sure if there is an exemption for a player that hasn't been there a year yet. No he hasn't signed long term or a new deal they might have to if they want to keep.

He was eligible to be franchised, what they couldnt do for 1 year was alter his contract, meaning they couldnt sign him to an extension for 1 year, or until free agency begins if hes due to be a free agent.
When a player restructures his contract they cant make any further changes for 1 year. Same situation for Tom Brady because he restructured his contract to help the Moss trade. Theres speculation when the year is up, Brady will sign an extension that will restructure his whole contract because its so out of whack because he pretty much has been restructuring nearly every year. (Hes currently signed thru 2010)

Obviously the Pats are going to be working to resign him, but if you're Moss what happens if the Eagles or someone comes calling with BIG bucks? Do you go? It basically comes down to whether Moss wants a ring, or that last big payday. He's 31 and won't get many big contracts after this one

Will they let Stallworth go? I see he's going to be a free agent.

He has a huge roster bonus due. Hes not technically a rfee agenty, but the value of the roster bonus ( i think it was $8m) means he will be released before the bonus is due.
If indeed Moss re-signs they have Moss, Welker, Jackson under contract. They want Kelly Washington back too, but he has a $4m roster bonus so if he returns it will have to be with a new deal, which Washingtons agent says is possible cause Washington would like to return.
They also want to bring back Jabar Gaffney whos a free agent but alos would like to return.
According to Dexter Jackson, the Patriots are one of three teams who have show interest in him.
I also just saw that the Patriots declined Stallworth's bonus making him a free agent.

Moss would be wise to resign for whatever the Patriots offer. He's not going to have a better shot at winning a Super Bowl anywhere else, and he could still sign a one or two year deal and have a shot at one more big contract later. Besides, winning equals endorsements, so the loss of income might be negligible. Obviosuly, he has a great rhythm with Brady, which is something you can't just find anywhere so it'd be kind of dumb to mess that up unless he had to.

Todd McShay said that he thinks Jackson is one of the two guys who will probably run the fastest 40 time at the combine.
