This is ridiculous...
Five-time champion Sean (the Cablanasian) Pendergast has been removed from the Smackoff.
Pendergast has a show on 1560 The Game, a radio station in Houston, that is a competitor of Star 610, the local Houston station that carries the Jim Rome show.
Jim Rome was apparently was fine with it, but 610 was against Pendergast coming on the show and threw up a big fuss. 1560, which has quite a few former 610 employees (which is why I have switched up the dial) has made it public on the air that 610 almost dumped Rome last year.
I feel bad for the Jim Rome listeners who are going to be unable to hear the best smack talker on radio...

Why would you be stupid? If you don't know who this guy is, then you don't listen to Rome (like myself). I fail to see why not listening to Rome qualifies any human being as stupid.

I used to listen to Jim Rome a few times a year or during my travels around the US. But it's been about 3 years since.
As for Houston sports radio, while I've never heard his show, I'll use this space to plug Mark Vandermeer. He used to run the Umass Radio Network, then went to Miami and then off to the Houston Texans. I believe he's now on 610.

WTF is CABLANASIAN?
"Cablanasian" gained notoriety as a term when Tiger Woods first used it to describe his racial background. He said he wasn't Black, but rather "cablanasian"- caucasian, Black, and Asian.

He is on 610 in Houston, but most folks have tuned away from 610 to 1560. Their lead producer (who made 610 what it was on the web) and their two of their leading hosts (their morning show hosts for like 10 years) jetted to 1560. Throw in Richard Justice, the best sports writer Houston has and 610 is a wasteland...only thing going for them is the Gen. John McClain, an NFL beat writer for the Houston Chronicle...
Still do not see why 610 wet their pants over Seanie possibly defending his title on the Houston airwaves...

Hasn't rome always had a rule that you can't come back to the smack-off if you've parlayed your win into your own show? i.e. J.T. The Brick

You're not missing anything. His show lasted less then a month in Chicago. He is a wanna-be Screaming A Smith. They both stink IMO.

Does Jim Rome consider himself the best smack talker????!?!?!? Because he is anything but, he sucks. I watch his show every now and again on ESPN just to make myself angry and sad at the same time.

From the Houston Chronicle...
Five-time winner Sean Pendergast will not be invited to defend his title in Jim Rome's annual Smackoff. Rome apparently made the decision not to invite Pendergast, who now hosts a talk show on KGOW (1560 AM), in deference to KILT (610 AM), his longtime Houston affiliate.
"I'm not surprised at all, given the fact that I host a show for a competing station, although I do think the audience for the Smackoff would have been interested to see what I might have to say," Pendergast said in an e-mail.
"The listeners, from what I've seen in our e-mail and heard on our show, are not real happy with this development, but, to be honest, I'm fine with the decision. It's business, so I get that. I'm pretty sure Jim knows that this is not going to ruin my year or anything."

His ESPN show is NOTHING like his radio show. I'll leave it at that. xeyebrowx

If it still has Jim Rome than that's all I need to know.

The radio show is less about Jim Rome and more about the smack callers. It's the kind of show that grows on you. But, having said that, it's definintely not for everyone. xeyebrowx

So does Jim Rome "smack" against callers? Or does he bring someone in? Or both?

Usually, it's the callers smacking on each other....and the good ones are absolutely hysterical to listen to. xlolx Rome is Rome. But the callers make the show. xnodx
