According to our Athletic Director, no on campus games this season. ESPN camera crew wouldn't have enough areas to park their trucks and satellites.

GRAMBLING STATE ANNOUNCES 2008 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

For the first time since 2003, the Grambling State University Tiger football team will play a 12-game regular season slate that’s highlighted by four home games, three neutral site classics and the return of two teams after a 30-year hiatus.

Second-year head coach Rod Broadway and his Tiger football team opens the 2008 season on the road at Football Bowl Subdivision and Western Athletic Conference member Nevada on Aug. 30 at Mackay Stadium in Reno , Nev. It will be the second meeting between the two schools, the first since 1972 when Grambling State defeated the Wolf Pack 37-3. The following weekend on Sept. 6, Grambling State returns home for its home opener against Alcorn State at Robinson Stadium followed by a trip to Natchitoches , La. on Sept. 13 to square off against Northwestern State of the Southland Conference. The meeting against Northwestern State , which will take place at Turpin Stadium, marks the first time since 1974 that the Tigers and Demons will meet on the gridiron.

Grambling State begins the first of two consecutive home games at Robinson Stadium highlighted by a 2007 SWAC Championship Game rematch against Jackson State on Sept. 20. On Sept. 27, the Lions of Langston University travels to Grambling and will face the Tigers for the first time since 2002.

The month of October begins with Grambling State traveling west to Dallas , Texas for its annual meeting against Prairie View A&M in the State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl on Oct. 4. The following weekend on Oct. 11, the Tigers travel east to the state of Alabama for a battle against Alabama A&M at Lewis Crews Stadium in Huntsville , Ala. The Tigers will wrap-up the home portion of their schedule on Oct. 18 as they play host to Alabama State for homecoming.

Grambling State will keep its bags packed in the month of November as they’ll play four games on the road. A trip to Itta Bena , Miss. on Nov. 1 to face Mississippi Valley State opens the month followed by an appearance in the third annual Delta Classic 4 Literacy versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock . On Nov. 15, the Tigers will invade the state of Texas for the second time with a trek to Houston for a match-up against Texas Southern. After a bye weekend on Nov. 22, Grambling State wraps up its regular season slate in New Orleans , La. as they face in-state rival Southern University in the 35th edition of the State Farm Bayou Classic at the Louisiana Superdome.

“We are very pleased with the 2008 football schedule,” said Grambling State Director of Athletics Troy Mathieu. “We’ve secured four home games for the first time since 2005 in addition to offering a schedule that features a quality set of non-conference and conference opponents. Outside of the trip to Nevada , the schedule also features seven road games within six hours or less of Grambling so our supporters will have the opportunity to follow the Tigers on a weekly basis.”

With the implementation of the seven-game conference schedule by the SWAC that features a rotating slate of conference opponents, Grambling State’s games against Alcorn State and Jackson State will be counted as non-conference games.

“Though we looked into the possibility of playing several other Football Championship Subdivision members with our non-conference games, as we weighed our options, we decided that because the Alcorn State and Jackson State games have historically had a high level of fan interest and have been very successful games in terms of the ability to generate revenue, we worked closely with both schools to keep those games on our schedule,” Mathieu added.

Where is Texas Southern playing if they are not playing on-campus? Robertson? Rice? Butler? Delmar?
