Jacks are doing a great job moving the ball on the Mustangs. Unless the Mustangs can make some adjustments at halftime this will be a close game.

52 yarder is pretty damn good! Close game, makes me feel a little better about our close win vs. the Jacks.

I was thinking the same thing, same with how Oregon is keeping USC pretty contained.

Here's an interesting stat. We held SDSU to 108 total yards, they have 335 against Poly through 3 quarters. South Dakota State has held Poly to 240 yards but are losing on the scoreboard.

Wow! Great game by SDSU. Their team is for real as I was not 100% convinced after the Griz game but seeing this makes me say...great job by the Hares!

Another tough loss to take. Hats off to Poly, they played a heck of a game and made some big plays, something we just haven't been able to do yet. Playing down 14-0 against a team of that caliber is a tough task, but the Jacks fought hard all night, we just didn't get it done.

These close losses against ranked teams are getting old, after awhile moral victories don't cut it anymore, we need to start winning some games. :)

The next two games are looking tougher all the time...

Oct. 1 Texas State San Marcos, Texas 6 p.m.
Oct. 8 *UC Davis Sioux Falls, S.D. (Howard Wood Field) 1 p.m.
Oct. 15 Open Date
Oct. 22 Missouri-Rolla (Hobo Day) Coughlin-Alumni Stadium 2 p.m.
Oct. 29 Georgia Southern Coughlin-Alumni Stadium 1 p.m.
Nov. 5 *Southern Utah Coughlin-Alumni Stadium 1 p.m.
Nov. 12 *North Dakota State Fargo, N.D. 6 p.m.
Nov. 19 *Northern Colorado Coughlin-Alumni Stadium 1 p.m.

Congrats to the Mustangs on a hard fought win. You guys have my vote to win the conference. This being our first real I-AA team we've had at home(no slam intended to NDSU) and the first I've witnessed, I can't believe the difference in speed/quickness at this level compared to D-II, especially along the D-line and linebackers.

It is tough to lose back to back close games to ranked opponents. We need to start winning some of these as Jacks02 said, moral victories won't cut it. We may not be the most athletic team on the field but I don't think anyone can question our toughness. However, I do have hope for future seasons. We have proven we can compete with these teams with 20 fewer scholarships and with athletes recruited to play D-II football. I can't wait till we are fully funded and we are the team coming out on top of these games.

Again, congrats on the great win Mustangs and looking forward to handing you a defeat on your next trip to Brookings.

The Cali teams are the ones to beat this year if NDSU is to win the title. I don't see either one of them faltering against anyone but the top three teams(Cal Poly, UC-Davis and NDSU) in the GWFC. SDSU is a fast improving program and they will make next year a four way race to the title in the GWFC. The only real bottom feeder will be SUU next year.

Go Mustangs!

I did. The old string and tin can I had as a kid sounded better. Maybe you can get Spanos to spring for a better intenet feed.

Word. I'm amazed at the quality, top-to-bottom, in the Great West. Other than SUU, it's solid through and through.

With the quality and parity in the Great West and the Big Sky, whichever teams advance to postseason play from the far west are sure to be battle tested.

BROOKINGS - Another game against a ranked team, another coulda-shoulda-didn't for South Dakota State.

SDSU beat 12th-ranked Cal Poly in almost every facet of the game except the final score.

Quarterback Anthony Garnett ran for three touchdowns Saturday night as the Mustangs ended the Jackrabbits' home winning streak with a 24-16 victory.

The final stat sheet leaned heavily in SDSU's favor. The Jacks outgained Cal Poly 344-322 while getting 22 first downs to the Mustangs' 11. Also, SDSU controlled the ball for more than 38 minutes. . . . (read more)

I can't help but be very impressed with SDSU after seeing them in Missoula last week and seeing the stats for this week's game! This team has a great future as does the entire Great West Conference. The conference finished second in I-AA last year in GPI in their first year of existence with mostly D-2 schools moving up. Anyone who discounts the teams in this conference are making a huge mistake! The GRIZ have Cal Poly coming up in four weeks - it won't be easy!

By the way this ties the school record, you may recognize the name: Adam Vinatieri.

It was with the wind, maybe 20 miles an hour? He has a heck of a leg and many more records will be his before he's done, he's just starting.
