MSNBC keeps having people who try to say this, but there hasn't been any decision reached on where Chamberlain is going to begin the season. Or at least, such a decision has not been announced publicly. The Yankees have said they will limit his innings, but that hardly guarantees he begins the season in the 'pen.
Peter Abraham (Yanks beat writer at LoHud, with his great blog) said as much earlier today: http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/02/12/it-looks-good-on-paper/
I'm willing to take Pete's word for it, given he is a heck of a lot closer to the team than Celizic.

He's not ready to start. He's got the goods and they need to take their sweet time with him.
I wish they'd start Mussina in the 'pen

Interesting, the article title says "Chamberlain might stay in Yanks' pen all year," but nowhere in the article itself do they actually say that.
Kinda strange xeyebrowx

Except for Rivera, their bullpen is a mess. This will help a lot.
I'm having flashbacks of the Rivera to Wettland days.xnodx

Yankees' plan still calls for Joba to start
Yankees pitching coach Dave Eiland reiterated yesterday that the plan is for Joba Chamberlain to begin the season as a starter.
The Yankees have six pitchers competing for five rotation spots in Chamberlain, Chien-Ming Wang, Andy Pettitte, Mike Mussina, Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy; so everything is subject to change. But for now, the Yankees see Chamberlain as part of the rotation and not a setup man for Mariano Rivera, as he was late in the 2007 season.
"He's going into spring training starting," Eiland said by phone. "That's really all we've discussed. There's different scenarios, I don't think you ever rule anything out, but he's going into it as a starter."
