Surgeons performed a procedure on Urlacher's lower neck region to address something believed to be affecting the cervical curve of the spine, according to a person familiar with the surgery. Urlacher was said to be experiencing soreness before the surgery.

Carl Banks brought that up on Sirius saying he's one of the best football players in the NFL, but not the best LB...
I don't know, he's a pretty stud LB in my mind.

I don't know, he's a pretty stud LB in my mind.
I'd say Patrick Willis from San Francisco is the best LB in the league followed by Shawne Merriman, after that you could make a case for Urlacher.

You almost have to seperate out ILB & OLB, and 3/4, 4/3 LBs

Urlacher is the best linebacker in the NFL hands down. He controls the game like no other defensive player.

Thats because he doesnt do some traditional LB responsibilities all that well. He can flat out run, he can pressure the QB, and is very good at pass coverage. He isnt so great at stuffing inside runs plays which is really an art, you have to read subtle things going on with the o-line and backfield. He lacks a bit in this area, but makes up for it with his tremendous athletic ability. Also neck surgery is bad news.
